Tent Setup Advice needed. 3x3 600w

Hi ICMag, i am a long time reader of this site and soon about to make the plunge into growing my own. Ive been reading for years and along those years ive always been planning in my head a small grow setup of my own and it seems as if opportunity will be presenting itself where i am going to be able to do it at long last.

so my plan:

A 3x3x7 tent with a 600w Dual Spectrum AC hood.

now my plan is to have 2 stage ventilation system so i want to cool the light seperatly from the grow chamber.

before you guys tell me to go and read the thread Ventilation 101,
i already have done so and although it is quite complex i believe i sort of grasped the idea but want to come here and make sure before i spend a whole lot of cash.

So my plan is to use 160cfm Vents TD 125 fan to cool the light constantly whilst it is on. then for the grow chamber i was planning on using VENTS VKO1 100mm 70cfm to exchange the air in the grow space through a small prima klima carbon filter and use two passive intakes same size as exhaust.

now acording to what i have read in the ventilation 101 thread i will need around 0.3cfm per watt of light to cool it so already im guessing i might need a larger fan than 160cfm.

Also recommended is 5 minutes between air changes so the tent roughly has about 70cf of volume and the fan i want to use can exchange that in one minute but it will be hooked up to a filter so im guessing it will slow down airflow quite a bit.

Another concern of mine is will that fan be strong enough to pull air through a filter and out the room ?? and i will definitly be sticking to cooling my lights seperatly as where i will be growing climate is pretty hot.

So to Sum it all Up will 160cfm Vents TD 125mm Fan be enough to cool the light, i can for slightly more money get the same fan but rated at around 300cfm.

Will the small Fan mentioned be enough to exchange the grow room air once every couple of minutes through small carbon filter (smallest i can get) using two passive intakes sized same as the exhaust?

Thanks in advance for anyone who takes the time to read my long ass post and thanks to all you legends who have posted over the years and taught me so much.

With a space that small, I think you could get away with running the filter > hood > fan > exhaust and skip the 2 exhaust fans.

If the climate you are growing in is hot, air cooling the hoods with that air isnt going to be worth it. With a good exhaust fan, the temps should only be a few deg warmer than ambient with lights on.

I have a similar space and run a 6" 424 cfm inline fan w.speed controller at about 75% power. This draws air through a carbon filter, an air cooled 600w hood and out of the room.

Space gets filled quick in a small area. A 6" blockbuster hood, an 18" carbon filter and a small circulation fan are about all I can fit in there. I have the exhaust fan outside the room.

Hi RonSmooth, i understand what you are saying but im just going on what i read in the ventilation 101 thread that changing air in your tent multiple times a minute will bring unwanted stress on plants?

i only have theory to go by no practical so thats why so many questions. also the tent will be sitting in an extremely large basement like a 6 car garage right now temps are low but its the summer months that would be more of a heat issue.

you run a 424cfm fan at 75% so you are exchanging air at about what 3-5 times per minute? have u run the cooling of the light sperate before?

This is the best way to set-up a small tent with a single light......OP, you are making it a lot more complicated an inefficient that necessary.

I have a small tent roughly the same size as yours (3x4x7) and I am also using a 600 W, however mine is just plain old HPS.
I have a 220 CFM inline duct fan for my light, then I have a separate 180 CFM inline duct fan for ventilation in my tent. I dont use any carbon filters, but I dont believe the rating on the 180 CFM fan anyway. It's probably closer to 100-120 CFM and I havnt noticed any descernable stress on my plants with all the air exchange.

I would say if anything I could use a little more power on both ends. I grow in the same room I sleep in, and it stays pretty warm in there (70F-75F). With both fans on and ambient room temp being at 75F the highest I ever saw my temps in the tent at canopy level was about 84 which isnt to bad.

So all in all what you're suggesting sounds like it would work. If anything I would go bigger on the fan for the light and keep the smaller size one for the room ventilation if you're going to stick with two fans.

Mines mainly just a flower tent so I like to have my light vent go off with the timer and have the tent vent on 24/7.

Just some ideas. :)

I run a 3x3x7 tent as well. 600w mh/hps, dimmable. I've been using a modded stanley blower to cool it for about a year now.

I run a single 6" duct from the fan and then it splits into 2 with a 6x6x6 wye branch. From there one side goes to the reflector and the other side goes into the top of the tent. I have the intake for the reflector piped outside the tent to pull in cooler ambient room air.

I will note that I'm not running a carbon filter...yet.... If I were to add one I'd have to upgrade and get a "proper" fan.

Thanks for all the info guys i got what i was looking for some answers from people with actual experience and now i have more of a clear direction that im going to go with my tent setup. once i get all my equipment and seeds all together i will start a separate thread to document the grow. il be sure to post a link of the thread here if any of u guys wanna check it out.

Again thanks alot and happy toking

Peace
