Temperature Nightmare..

Hi guy's....

looking for some help as I've had nothing but a headache this weekend. I've got a 400w light in a small closet....obviously temperature was always going to be a problem....I grew my last yield at an average temperature of 100f. Very hot. This obviously did my plants no favors...

Anyhow into my second grow now and thought I'd try and sort out the problem with a extractor fan in there....I've now got 1 big fan for extracting air over the light, 1 fan for extracting air out of the growing area placed at the top left of the room, a intake point and a small osculating fan.

So I spent all my Saturday cutting sawing ect....... only to find when I turned all the bloody set up one it only drops the temp by like 5f.....I was a bit pissed off......

Any advice on lowering the temp as I'm having a fucking mare at the minuet....I can't really open the door much.....apart from putting ice in there I'm stumped.

Anyway Cheers guys.!!!!
James

What's your ambient room temps, where's the intake (and how much) and where does your exhaust go?

I've kept a 1K in a 50 cu/ft setup with 2 265cfm daytons and the temps stayed in the upper 70's even though I live in an extremely warm/humid climate most of the year, so it's definitely doable...just gonna take a little tweaking.

BTW, is that a 4" fantech?

The air is going back into the room.....can't really vent it outside due to where I live. I tried changing a few thing round tonight but still no luck........
I might make the intake hole bigger.......
cheers guys.

you must exhaust all heat outta and away from the grow cabs room or this will be your problem. if the intake keeps sucking the hot exhausted air back into the cab your defeating the porpuse of tryn to air cool.

Is that an air cooled reflector you have in there or is it just a normal one with a fan sucking the air out? If it isn't then I'd strongly suggest buying an enclosed air cooled reflector and that should help with your temps.

Is that diamond reflective sheeting I see there? I'll be buying some with my next order...looks like good stuff. How does it compare to mylar in your opinion?

I've never used the malar...I always used to have the walls painted white....seemed to do the trick but this dimond sheeting is good....makes you go blinde if you look at it to long....lol........The light is a air cooled one...........I've got a fan attached to it but dosn't really do the trick.

The room doesn't really get that hot......just the cab.

try to buy a blower and attach that instead of regular fan.but as stated earlier best to vent hot air away from the intake vent.

Whats your fan rated at? How much air does it move?
Sounds like you may need an upgrade.

Honestly if you have a decent fan with an air cooled reflector you should have practically no heat in the room even if you are using a 400w in a small space.

My bet is that you either have a leak somewhere in your setup, your fans not powerful enough or you're blowing the hot air straight back into the grow room.

Remember you NEED an open window at least in the same room as your grow so the hot air can be refreshed with new cool air from outside, otherwise it's going to get stale and very warm.

If possible buy some more ducting and extend it to the nearest window.

hat sounds like a plan....I might get some ducking moved close to the window for air intake.....or at least extract out the window.
My fan is a RVK125A1 Budget Extraction/Filtration Kit 2 - (250m3/hour)
it should be plenty....I've also got a small closet extractor in there too Closet Fan 100mm (4") - 160m3/hour the larger of the two extracts air over the light and out of the area and the smaller is placed in the top corner of the growing are to extract......I've got the light extractor running full time and the small one set at 15 mins on and 15 mins off.
I'm trying to play around with wether I should run the fans as intake or extract.........

This is the light I've got in there.........I think you can have a look at all the info on it in the discription of the pic.

We order from the same place :D

All your kit should work well I've looked at it all before while browsing. In fact that's way more than you should need really...an inline fan for your reflector and a circulating fan inside the grow room should be plenty.

Damn I really hope it isn't the fan cause that's the exact one I will be buying in a few days for an air cooled reflector lol

That's cool!!!!
There a blinding company...I've bought all my stuff there since I started on this little project.......
I kinda got carried away with the buying a few times. This is the problem. Even with this overkill I still can't get the bloody temps down...it's pissing me off...lol
I've just e-mailed the company asking for there advice. With a abit of luck they might come up with sommit.
My best bets probbly to sort sommit out with a intake next to the window. Would this do the trick??? I thought about putting a extractor vent next to the window instead but I heard this is how the coppers pick up places with the old heat camera.
I'm probbly being a tad parinoid but better safe than sorry.
Cheers

I agree they are very good with their customer service...will never order from anywhere else as long as they keep me happy.

The thing with putting your intake next to the window is that you may and up sucking some unwanted nasties into your grow room which may not be the best...but if you have a carbon filter then I suppose that would filter little bugs out.

I think the pigs need to get a warrant before they are allowed to scan your house with infra-red...they need some incriminating evidence like ganja leaves in the rubbish or a strong smell of herb coming from your house 24/7. So if you don't give them any leverage on you then you should be set man.
Maybe switch them around and mess with it a bit until you get the best result?

Let me know how it goes.

I think I've got it sorted out now. Put the intake next to a windo and it seems to be helping. got it down to about 80oF at a constant.
Cheers for all the help guys.

I have a 400w in a closet. You simply MUST circulate more.

You cant cool a 400W fan with 80 degree ambient temps, exhaust to the same space, and expect that # to stay constant.

I exhaust to outdoors. Ambient temp is about 78 and cab temp is about 85 or so.

When I say 80oC I mean in the cab.......I vent into the room but I get fresh air in from outside.....It seems to be doing the trick as the temps outside have dropped in the last few days which helps.
Gonna start a few more plants too.....I had four WW from female seeds started but one is a runt and my girlfriend picked one by mistake. (don't ask!)
I've got a few bubblegum seeds so I might go for them.
cheers again
