tell us about new can-fan MAX fans

These are relatively new, high output and energy efficient alternatives to standard inline fans. They are supposed to run very quiet, as well. Does anyone have experience with these and are they really the shit? Also, how does the can fan MAX compare with the fantech XL, mixed-flow fans?

I would like to hear about these as well.

The thing is, I find it hard to believe these things are quiet.

Moving lots of air is not quiet.

I can hear my 6 inch fan outside of my garage.

In a couple of months I will be building another gardener's room. He has one of these. I will report on it, but like I said, in a couple of months.

i run a couple of the 10" max fans... works great, small for a 10" which makes it easy to mount and runs quiet.

I'm not sure but...
One of these threads has a link to a video of a hydroponics trade show.
(I think it was relatively recent...maybe in Fla?)
They are doing the interview right beside one of these new fans while it is running.
You can barely here it.

I'd like to know more myself.

It seems like if it were so revolutionary, everyone would have one by now.

It's an axial fan, right?

By looking at the specs on Can-Fans website and comparing the 10" Max to a 10" HO RS Series (traditional centrifugal fan, high output version), the Max appears to outperform the RS in every way (cfm, noise, power consumption)--except cfm drop as a result of high static pressure.

The Max's zero static pressure cfm rating of 1019 drops to 155 at 1.5" of static pressure with a maximum pressure rating of 1.74". The centrifugal 10" zero static pressure cfm rating of 761 drops to only 368 at 1.5" of static pressure with a max pressure rating of 3.14".

Seems like the Max fans might be superior as long as you're not trying to pull a lot of vacuum. Also, the Max fans only come in 10" and 12" sizes.

I'm running 2 of these. I have a 10x10 room and I'm running the 14in on the biggest can filter they make and running the 10in to cool 4x1000 watt lights and they work great. The fan on the filter is so strong I can barely pull the door open when it is running. the one cooling the lights is mounted outside the grow room, right next to my bedroom door and I have no problem with the noise from it. I wouldnt buy any other type of fan after using the one on the filter I went back and changed out all my other fans with these and the jump in cooling and air flow was crazy. Ohhhh and the MAX comes in more then just 2 sizes, they run from 6in to 14in just like the HO, they just released the first 2 sizes at first to see how people like them.

No according to the can filter website it is a mixed flow fan. The image below compares the three type fans. The mixed flow are what the S&P are too. The fans look the same so i am sure these max fans are quiet.

Ah yes, there is an 8" (even though it's not on Can Fan's site  ). I sure can't find a 6" anywhere though.

It looks like Ruck Ventilation is the company that actually manufactures Can Fans. The smallest Etaline (aka MaxFan) they list is an 200mm (~8").

The look like very nice fans. I like the lower power consumption per CFM especially. I might even delay the purchase of a centrifugal fan to take a closer look at these--but only if there's a 6" version.

Don't forget the 14".
That is the one I'm running.
Quieter than my 8" Vortex.

sounds like these things are the way to go, in the future. One thing that confuses me is I see metal fans like the one hawk posted, and also can-fan "black max" fans that look the same but with a black plastic body. I emailed a vendor and they said there was only one product, the plastic body fan so what is the story?
