Me and Mrs Pink are travelling to Rome for a few days in either late Feb or Early March
I'm not expecting 96 deg in the shade at that time of year but hoping for some decent weather
as I want to go look around this fine city that until now I have only passed through

I will be staying near the main railway station and I already have a few things on my list
the Colosseum is a 10 minute walk away and all the other historic stuff in that area
I'm also going to visit the Vatican City (not that I'm in any way religious) I want to see the Sistine chapel
can anyone tell me if its open to the public all year round

I'm sure there will be more places to add to my list as the time get closer
but if any of you guys stay in Rome maybe you can point out some places of interest
and it doesn't need to be ancient monuments I'm open to any suggestions :tiphat:

Hi oldpink! I'm happy to know that you'll visit our beautiful capital :)! I don't live in Rome but I think that March has a better weather than February! I think that all museum or monuments are opened all year! I suggest you to spent one day only to walk around in the city centre! You could find some beautiful place without tourist guide and out from classical tourist places! But it depends from how many days you'll stay in the city! I think that Lonely P. guides are very good and rich of informations! And take a look to website's museum to see time and days of opening! Good holidays! Ciao!

hey Oldpink,
i strongly recommend the Lonley Planet travell guide dedicated to Rome .....there is just so much to see in Rome that listing it here would be an enormous task .
Concerning the weather i would suggest march rather then february ...other then that enjoy the city ..enjoy the food, and make shure some italians show you the best bars to hang out in town before and after dinner ( APERITIVO :) )
here is the link for the guide:

Rome is definitely a perfect destination for your first holidays in Italy ...
Unfortunately for the central area, these two months are very wet, and this season will prove to be a bit colder than expected, but has its own charm!
I hope you will enjoy ...

hello oldpink
as they have mentioned the months you have chosen are not the best times to visit Rome! I personally would choose March as you have more chance of finding beautiful days!
Here you have the 2014 calendar of the Vatican Museum(they are together with the chapel)

I suggest a walk to the "gianicolo" where you can have the best view in Roma. below of gianicolo there is Trastevere, an old popular area now renewed and full of restaurants and pubs of every kind!

if you have any concerns or questions you ask, we will reply!
