Tell me about Canada (BC area)

Well I've been thinking about making this move for some time, as I've visited the area a few times and love the mountains. Could anyone tell me a little about the cost of living in and around the Whistler/Blackcomlb area. What could I expect to pay for a decent home in the area, something like 3 bedroom single family style house. Could this be done in this area for under 600,000?

Anyone have a place for rent near vancouver and can somehow get me into the country? I'm from the U.S.

I'll work in a smoke shop or will trim buds for a living. I have many other skills as well. PM for details.

lol... good luck on that man. I don't know if you're serious or not, but sounds like it would be a good time.

damn right I'm serious, I dont know anyone in Canada though, much less B.C.

Yummy, can I stay in your sisters room until I find a place?

no you cannot.

home prices here keep on rising. Our house is $650,000 right now just for the land. It went way up from a few years ago. our house is 47 years old so the value is only the land.

nice homes are like 1 million + , but yeah you can find a small house for under 600,000.

depends where in BC, I'm talking about the lower mainland. if you go into the interior or areas further away from vancouver and the coast the prices are much cheaper.

Breezy you in the PNW?

Canada, has really tighted up on hydro use, the companies are reporting high usage to task forces that then request a saftey inspection....
Thing have been changing there with the formation of the new gov in 2006

Peace

you can just pay me in weed, squar footage? not sure it's just a small walk in closet, enough room to sleep in the fetal position.

I'm not in the PNW bergerbuddy, but I really enjoy the areas in and around whistler. The area is beautiful, only problem is I would imagine that the housing isnt the most affordable. Within the next year I need to find a new home, as our current house isnt large enough for my wife and child. We would really like to move around whistler, but from the responses here, and the limited searching ive done on the internet it seems it may be to costly to live in the area for us.

you can live in my closet.

But I thought you were already in the closet?

Sorry couldn't resist.

I'm sorry, but 1 million dollars for a house is absurd. I hope you're talking about the snobby developments, and not your typical house (two/three bedroom, two baths, basement). I've been to BC, and I can tell you the average house I saw wasn't any nicer than the stuff here in Vermont, and I thought VT's prices were bad.

yeah I know, there are some pretty small houses that are not nice at all but still go for 1 million or close to that in some upper class neighbourhoods.

600,000 will get you a decent small family house but you won't get a big house for that amount unless you go out to the interior or the farming areas.

the house I'm in is 600,000 and it's 5 bedrooms, 2 of the bedrooms are tiny and only really good for a young kid, the house is pretty old and crappy , no garage. the 600,000 is basicly what the land is worth, crappy house but lots of land.
