I'm worried in case the noise from the fan mentioned in the title could be heard by neighbours through walls or floor. i have a tiled floor, dunno bout the walls

p.s. and of course if this is likely, how to stop it! :chin:

Funny that you posted this today... I just barely recieved my 6" Vortex PowerFan today and plugged it in to find out how loud it is through my floor... I honestly don't think I can listen to talk radio super loud all the time to cover up the noise :(

If you figure out how to muffle the sound a bit let me know. (or at least mask it.)

lol was thinking same thung, only so much mp3 to listen too...

im currently pulling through my carbon filter, the room is very small and i dont think a speed control will eliminate all the noise. will pushing rather than pulling through the filter make it quieter?

i was going to try to build a box for the fan to insulate the noise, but igot some sounmdboard and it fell apart as i was making the box. poor diy skills prob. i was gonig to put polystyrene or those sponge/scrubber dishwasher pads in their, will this doing anything (even if i get more board and do it properly(

sound isolated box around the fan and a muffler after it should do the trick. make the least amount of bends in the ducting as possible to cut down on air noise.

i bought a 10 " td and it was like a jet engine firing up ,way to loud ,,acoustic ducting and a silencer helped but it was still quite loud ,so i sold it on ebay and got me a fancy acoustic fan ,,ive yet to use it in a grow but i fired it up and its pretty damn quiet ,,acoustically lined boxed fans are the answer

I'm thinking about putting my 6" vortex powerfan on one of those crazy timers that turn off an on as much as you want... Maybe I'll only have it cycle on about once every hour or so depending on how smelly it gets down there.

good idea moe, i was thinking of doing it with just a cheap timer from the shop (as i have one already). how often do you guys think the fan sohu;d come on? and i assume that a cheap plug timer will do the trick on a small fan?

my cab is only 2 and a half foot, what kind of silent, small fan can i get away with ? or setting a normal timer the minimum anount of time. i cant work out the calculations for the cfm etc. thinking of just buying a fan controller

so is it agreed that this will have been ehard through walls?

Dayton 265 going into a small scrubber doesn't make that much noise.. It does take up a lot of space. Ventilates an area about 2.5'x1.5'x3.5' Quiet though.

i was thinking of using one of these to turn my fan on, say every 5 minutes for 1 minute. think this will do the trick? and will it be electrically safe?

Figure out the square feet of your room, and then figure out how long it will take for you to filter the whole room according to how many CFM's your fan pushes. Mine takes about 1-2 min to freshen the whole room.
