Was wondering others experience with tanglefoot around the base of plants. It says on package to put it on a band or something before applying so its not directly on the plant. Has anyone tried putting it directly on trunk? Seems a band would have to be elastic or it might damage the tree by cutting off circulation.anybody got experience with this product?

I've used it in the past for fruit trees that had a ant problem and it worked great. I've applied it directly to the trunk and didn't observe any trunk damage although it did leave that part of the trunk darker the bark seemed a little softer. Now to be on the safe side I wrap some green plant tie ribbon around the trunk and tie it off then apply the tanglefoot on the ribbon. That works well and the ribbon stretches but you may have to cut it off ever week or two for a fast growing plant.

You can buy tree guards, the spiral ones then put the tangle foot on those, if you only need a couple inches for your band, just cut the guard tot he size you need, they go on easy and come of easy, expand as the plant grows.
