Taming the wild grow

Hello all and welcome to my !st thread!:jump:
This all started as a ramping up for outdoor '12 but I started too soon and will be trying to finish these indoors. I suppose I oughta say right now that there will be no pics. I know that means that this will probably be no more than a public notebook that only I will visit. We love seeing those ladies, right!? Anyway...

I started out with a bunch of ak47 bagseed and saved the 5 strongest poppers. They are all about 10 in tall/ 2x the thickness of a pencil and the main stem has been twice topped for 4 top colas. The branches directly below these have been topped once just so that they wouldnt outgrow the tops. The branches below the 2nds are/will be cloned.
My space is a closet w/ 4' 2 shoplights; each having a very white daylight tube and a 'normal daylight tube (these plainly look more red). Ive kept the plant 3-4" below them to reduce stretch and bush em out (working much better than I hoped). The space is lined w/ bright white, slightly glossy, heavy-duty paper( on a 3' wide roll, got for free). My shoplites were free, half the soil was free, some peat pucks were free, as well as some pots, etc.).
FREE/CHEAP are my operative words.:)
Soil is a mix of leftovers from landscaping my ma's house and a bag of organic from the Depot. Some perlite and some HFrog conditioner w/ myc. A fan has been blowing on them nearly constantly since the 2nd set of true leaves appeared. They are currently in 1 g pots, roots poppin out the bottoms 1 week after planting.
I am sexing them now and hoping for some ladies. 1 is very indica, 2 are mostly indica-looking and may just be a sex diff from the 1st. The other 2 are slightly thinner leafed and much less dense in bushiness. 1 of the last 2 has purple racing stipes up its heavily fluted stem. Ive read that this is attributed to salty nutes, but if thats the case why does this only show in 1 of 5? So Im thinking I have 2-3 phenos-we'll see, well i'll see.
As said, sexing now so I dont make a bunch of male clones. They got 40 hrs of lite dep and r under 12/12 til sex shows. Then its out w/ the boys and back to veg. i had no plans to flower these indoors, but now am thinkin I'll drop a couple red spectrum 100w cfls into the mix when its time just to try it out.
As is, Ive cloned the 3 most indica of the plants and they are doing well w/ my 3 white widow/maybe something else cuts from my grow buddy. These were apparently mislabelled from who he got em from so i cant be sure. i do know that I like to smoke it!
Had trouble w/ wet feet on the clones, so I went with what I know and dropped em all in soil making it easier for me to control the moisture levels. All good now except for the jack herer- shes gone.
Maybe it makes me a dickhead for saying this but: If youre just gonna hate on me and call me fake for not posting pics (my daughter broke my last 2 expensive cams; and my cell is junk n would have to be posted to a diff online album then copied to my puter then posted to here- too many steps and too many footprints), then just read someone elses thread. Im growing for me. thanx for letting me ramble and I hope someone can enjoy this besides me and the folks who get to try the finished product.
next post will be after sex is determined. cheers

havent got the editing figured out so heres a couple of things I didnt mention. The white paper is overlayed w/ a emergency blanket I had kickin' around. The plants have been vegging for almost 2 months. And, I am a gardener by trade.

Welcome :)

Stripey stems like that can be the result of so many things, not necessarily bad. I'd still supercrop 'em...

What is your climate like in NE? When are you planning to harden these off and transplanting them? Do you have a greenhouse? Get some rock dust for those when you put them in the ground (or are you using larger containers outdoors?) since it'll help make them more cold-hardy.

Welcome Nader,
Actually dont know if I'll be using these outdoor at all. I mite give the majority of the clones to an ill friend to finish for himself. I just happened upon these seed and decided 'what the hell?'. My intention was to purchase some seed in Feb. to start a cloning regimen for outdoors in the spring. My climate is, historically, a wet spring, not too dry summer and fall that tends to warm days and cool nights (fall can be wet or dry-ish). I'd be looking at a late may/ early june planting if the weather cooperates. I didnt include in my original starting post, that these plants have received 2 hrs of sunlight everyday (every sunny day) since being put in pots.(sunlight cant be beat) The temp in the closet is from 68-73 F and abuts the chimney cavity. Humidity is rather low due to dry winter air. Between waterings, I leave a shallow dish of water in front of the fan so that warm air is blown over it, increasing the humidity of the space. I plan on digging early spring. I will amend the soil w/ composted cow manure, know some folks w/ chix so I'll get some of that too, lime(as soils can be acidic) perlite maybe, HFrog soil conditioner, some polymer crystals.
I had an idea and maybe some folks will chime in on it. I was thinking of filling a nylon stocking or a long tube made from landscape fabric w/ perlite (or similar material), making a loop out of it and lining the circumference of the bottom of my hole w/ it. i thought this mite act as a reservior of sorts w/ heavy rains and the few times I can go out and really put the water to it. originally i thought to bury such a thing upright in the ground 8-12" from the plants as a way to deep water easily. I would bury them a few inches below grade so that they wouldnt stick up and loose moisture too rapidly to the air. I may try some swampy plantings also w/ fabric pots partially buried and camoed w/ a bunch of lime in the transition zone. Thanx for asking. That is my outdoor plan in a nutshell. However, this is my indoor thread, so I'll write more on this. Dont wanna catch any grief from the mods.
As I've already written, my plants are currently under 12/12 to determine sex. They are starting to show tiny bumps at the upper nodes. However, its still too soon to tell w/ my jewelers loop. (This loop (or is it 'loupe') is great for rockhounding.) Maybe another couple of days and they should become obvious. I've started training my twice topped tops and its going quite well. They should be set to have a nice crown of colas (fingers crossed). My canopy is very even over my grow area. Fan leaves tip from one side to tip on the other side is roughly 3x the diameter of the 1 g pots, so avg 16" across. They are as big as my hand and pushing out 7 leaflet sets. Thats it for now. Cheers
just a lil shoutout to some of my favorite ICers - cannado cowboy, zamilito(did I spell that right?), backcountry, everyone on the 43N, all the big-balled guerillas, many others whose handles I'm blanking on now that I'm taking this moment. Aint that the way!

Killed...

Killed...

...the 1st confirmed male. It was 1 of the smaller least indica. Ive got 1 def female and I think 2 others, but its still too soon to tell. Ive got 3 g pots coming tomorrow. This is a good thing seeing as the male had thick roots circling the pot bottom. They already have a nice smell to them when I open the closet - a lil hashy, aged skunk (maybe). May sound strange but I'm really hoping tto have only 3 girls. Thats so my closet doesnt become too crowded. Luckily out of the pre-sex clones, none were from the male. If the other small 1 turns out to be male, it may turn out that I only have 1-2 phenos. They are very similar in overall structure. However 1 is extremely thick and bushy, pushing out side branches after the appearence of the 5th leaf set. This 1 is very dark w/ super fat leaves. Under magnification the hairs on the leaves look like a cats tongue, but feels much rougher. Almost like the MOB my buddy recently harvested. Hope by tomorrow the sexing will be done so I can get em back into veg cycle. Man, I wish I had a joint! cheers

Back to growing greens

Back to growing greens

1 male, thats it. 4/5 are fems! Unfortunately, I dont think that Ive got the space to grow out all 4, so I dropped a really nice 50/50ish pheno off at my buddies house. Hes just himself set up and has 4 girls under his 600. This is great for him, seeing as how hes a 100% disabled Nam vet w/ a slew of eating, pain and sleeping issues. Ive brought him 1 of each: jack herer, widow, diesel and now an ak. Those along w/ the indica pheno ak and a pineapple chunk clone- hes all set for awhile. Can everyone send him a good vibe or 2? thanx.
As for my ladies, they are back under veg light 19/5 ATM cause theyre sharing space w/ fresh rooted clones. (14 in all: buncha aks(3 phenos, 2 being different only in vigor and bushiness), some widow, diesels) And a bagseed plant whose seed was so stripeddy a tigger could love it. 2 have been put in 3g pots(ran outta soil for the 3rd). I havent tied these back down yet cause I figured the transplant was punishment enough for 1 day. So Ill get em LSTed tomorrow and hopefully score some soil somewhere, somehow... cheers

Karma in action!

Karma in action!

Looks like Ive got some HF soil on the way. Karma in action! My vet friend is insisting on getting me a cube for the plants I brought him, particularly the ak. Hes amazed at how strong and vigorous she is. Pretty good trade off Id say- a $20 bag of soil for a plant he could flower out right now. No, I am not taking advantage of him. In fact, hes always trying to pay me exorbitant amounts of money for all the lil things I do for him, I only take what I need to get by, compensate for gas, etc. After all "A mans gotta eat." - Randy, asst. trailor park sup., Trailor
Park Boys.
So, Ive got my girls bound-down again and theyre liking the fresh soil in their new 3 g homes. Ive removed almost all the major fan leaves as theyre as bushy as 70's porn queens.
Now for the problem: I could wait a couple weeks and try to flower them w/ help from some red spectrum cfls added to my closet; or, I can keep the lights close, veg em for 2 more months and buy a appropriate light when I get back to work in the spring. I like the 2nd option better because I could then build a 2-tier box for my flouros to put my smaller plants into while my girls are getting dolled-up. Even though, the thought of waiting 4+/- months for bud, is not very appealing. If anyone happens along this thread and if they keep reading after the 'no pics' line and they (you) read up to here, please tell me what you think. Money IS an issue. cheers

Good looking' out for helping a Vet! I'm still reading even with no pics, lol! In my opinion, you've got the time and the genetics for a great summer! I had a similar situation. I chose to veg my 2 plants. I've topped them, LST'd them, super cropped them, wove them into themselves....it's like a hardcore bondage scene. I just pulled 30 clones off of them for outdoors, let them recover a bit, and switched to 12/12. Get it now AND get it later! (pull clones from outdoors for indoors in fall...). Best of luck to you, and Peace!

Thanks for droppin by dirtyc. Still dont know how Im gonna finish these ladies off. I have decided to look into getting/making a tent that would fit nicely into a corner of my bedroom and running those BIG cfls. Power is included in my rent so I cant go w/ MH or HPS. Even though Id be using those, Id still have to offset my lights so that the clone/veg closet runs simultaneously w/ the tent as few hours as possible. I already run all my household lights on cfls and dont use much more power than those and this computer.
Found some borg in my closet yesterday and are goin sponge the plants today. I am completely broke so I cant even by a HotShot. Ill be surfing through the pest threads to see if I have anything inhouse to make a spray. If not, then Ill just keep wiping em off every couple of days. Gotta get ready to go get that soil. Its a 60 mile round trip in my neck of the woods this time of year. cheers

Im all potted-up

Im all potted-up

Finally alkl 3 ladies are in 3 g pots. Some of their offspring and widow are in 1 gs. Need.More.Pots. I have 5 more ready for 1 gs or I gotta find someone who wants clones, quick. 4 more freshly rooted clones were just put in 4" pots.
It seems, atm, that the borg only hit a clone I got from someone else. Its been separated from the others and is doing ok so far.
This is so much fun!:D

Retarded potheads

Retarded potheads

Maybe you can see that Im a bit pissy right now. A buddy was asking me where I got my seeds. I told him it was from the ak he was getting this summer. He said, his (the original provider) indoor or outdoor? I said out, from the 3z's you got. he says let me call him, I think that was skunk. (this is after the same guy told me ak was all the other guy grew) Man, I hulked out (on the inside). yep, so my ak grow is now a skunk grow. Dont ask, I dont know which skunk. He said skunk #1. I took that with a load of salt. And, there, in a nutshell, is the problem w/ getting clones/seeds around here. AARRGGHH!!
anyway, the ladies are doin nicely. The lst'ing is nearly done, at which point my lights go up so I can get some stretch into em. Theyre still only 1' tall. Ill let em grow another foot and by then Ill have my light sit. settled. Then its time for the real show! Hell I mite even get to borrow a cam for some pics. Just gotta figure out how to get the incriminating sig outta them. cheers

 fellow NE'er, some storm 'eh? My plow sits yet again :( Anyways, dying to see some pics, there are free programs to strip Exif data, there is a thread in the security & legal section about how icmag is supposed to strip the exif data but it doesn't, if you find that thread you'll find what you need.

Thanks LB. I think we'll see snowstorms come August. Actually got a thundersnow in August a few years back. I was on Sugarloaf in Maine on the AT. Another month, and Ill have to start getting ready for my guerilla grow.
Ive already got that tagged, i think maybe by Backcountry. Now I just gotta see if I can get my sisters cam for a couple days. cheers

Well there hasnt been much going on here. Except for a clone tray dump. Unfortunately it wasnt on purpose. I was moving stuff around in the closet and 1 of my tie-down wires must have grabbed it and CRASH! That was 4 days ago and all are fine. W the exception of 1 of my widow/deisels; broke off the entire root mass. I could have tried cutting and rerooting it but why? Ive 2 more and I can cut more clones from them. Since I want to use other strains, for the most part, Im going to bud these as minis when I do the plants I grew from seed. I have 2 choices as to how I can bud em. 1) 250w hps (this may excede my $100 electricity limit). 2) 2 150w large cfls (This would use fewer actual watts [granted, not much less] and I wouldnt have possible heat issues. Oh, ya - and cheaper to buy.) Light penetration doesnt worry me much do to the fact that Ive kept most of the activity at canopy level.
Now Im almost ready to cut more clones. Ive just got to decide which 1s to do. Ill have to put together a micro clone cab 1st. Ill need to clone sooner, but my light(s) are still a month away. Hoping to be back to work before the end of March.
So, Ive gotta clone, inspect the areas Ive identified for the grows, and start buying dirt and amendments. I plan on composted cow/chix manure, composted mushroom, lime, chunky perlite, and possibly HF soil amendment w/ benes. Mixed at 75% to native soil (which is pretty shitty, mostly sand w/ a lil clay).
I also want to experiment w ways to deep water the plants. Im thinking a donut made from lanscape fabric filled w/ chunky perlite buried approx. 8". Adding a 1" pvc pipe firmlt pressed against the donut and buried to grade. I think this would allow me to dump a few gallons into the pipe/donut saturating the substrate. A couple more gs poured over the surface and some cooperation from mother nature. But all that will go in my future outdoor thread.
Back to the indoor. cheers

Still no pics, saw my sis too but forgot to ask. Ya, I was high.
My girls are all unbound. Except for the lower branches on my bushiest gal. They just jumped right back up to the lights as if they havent been tied down at all. I wouldnt have thought that such a woody branch could do that, but it did.
The count: 3 skunk in 3g pots, 5 skunks in 1g pots, 1 widow/diesel in 1g pot, 1 bagseed in 1g pot, and 1 w/d and 4 more skunk in baby pots. I have 3 phenos of the skunk: 1 is super indica bushiness, another is more indica (less bushy, more vigorous) and 1 that is much slower growing and thinner leafed. The widow/diesel is a mystery as to which came 1st - the hen or the rooster. Is it white diesel or sour widow (whatever that would be called)? I could get a jack herer but there is no way to grow it in my closet. Its a 300% stretcher, a good 10 wk budder. Its sort of crippling my buddys flower room as it has to be tied up everywhich way and bent even more to keep it outta the lights and the ceiling trusses. Crazy ass bitch - its gonna yield 6-8 zs. Im still holding out for a m.o.b. clone, hopefully that will be soon.

So here we are, roughly 3 months of vegging. As Ive said before, I am using flouro tubes atm. This and some defoliation and lsting has allowed me to keep these girls short 12-14". Ive raised my lights to start a lil stretching action as I really want to get these budding sooner rather than later. My whole room stinks just from the small trich heads on the leaves so Im hoping this stuff will get dank. Im gonna use some Open sesame next time I water which should be this weekend. Then Ill concentrate on getting better lights. Ill clear water em again middle of next week and open sesame again the following weekend. I should have much better and more light by then. At this point Ill put em under 12/12. They should be done about the time everything gets ramped up for my outdoor.
On another note, I vivited my vet friend the other day and was surprised at how small his plants were. Hes got em under 18/6 600w light. They arent putting on as much development as they should. He is underwatering. Between 4 3g pots he is using a total of 1g of water. No wonder..! Thats 1 q h2o for a 2' tall plant every 3 days. The leaf edges were all upcurled and felt dry to the touch. Not enough I told him. I asked him to just do me a favor and give them a 1/2g each every 3-4 days. I know he'll see a huge improvement. I have another friend who only got 1z total outta 6 plants. Problem: 1 pint of water every 2 days! I related this my bud, so hopefully he listened. And airflow, he rarely has a fan blowing on these and I know if he keeps the h20 up his jack herer will be snapping branches. He says hes trying to mimick nature. Is the air ever actually still outdoors? No. I want him to be successful. If hes not happy w/ the outcome, he'll probably just throw all his equip right in the trash.
On yet another note, i did have some fun trimming up a really sticky, stinky pineapple chunk last night. cheers!

Thanx for hangin in Dirtyc. Helping my brother-in-law move a washing machinr tonight, so Im gonna ask about that cam.
Ive made the final shave of my ladies legs yesterday, w/ the exception of a few sprouts that Ill make clones w/, until Im ready to bud em. These girls are quite mature. I noticed a few shimmering white dots on the leaves of the top branches so I pulled out my loupe. Trich heads! Very nice! This gives me reason to believe that these have the potential to be frosty nug producers. :jump: I think I may have to start giving em some nutes as my soil should be close to depleted. Im will only be giving em some Schultz all-purpose food cause thats what Ive got kickin around. I dont see any reason why chem nutes cant be used in veg. I want to use something organic when it comes time to flower so that there isnt any chance of chem tasting buds. I will still hit em up w/ open sesame and superthrive. (Theyve been getting superthrive straight through, except for a 2 week stint to see if there was ant notable difference.) There was a difference. As soon as I started giving the girls superthrive again, they got back a perkiness that was missing w/out it.
I rearranged my closet and put down new paper when I trimmed. I also raised my fan so that it would be blowing across the tops.
I found a few borg stowaways on the widow/diesel. They seem to love this strain. They have completely left the skunks alone. This is why Ive decided to keep some for my guerrila grow.
I think Im gonna dump some of my skunk clones as they are moving very slowly. Id like to just give em to someone but no one is ready for clones here yet. It seems folks up here are becoming too lazy to pop beans and train a couple good moms to take cuttings from. Theyde rather spend 100s on clones. Maybe theyre just unsuccessful at cloning or getting a bean through the pop-take root stage.
Im still hoping for that m.o.b. and I may soon have access to confidential cheese and rocklock. Fingers crossed! cheers

Pleasant surprise!

Pleasant surprise!

I was rearranging my closet last night and topping the ladies off w/ a lil h2o. I decided to give my skunks a stem rub to get a better idea of what they might smell/taste like when theyre all done. Surprise! Absolute lemonheads candy on my favorite! And the other 2 big girls, almost the same; lemon candy skunk - heavy on the lemon.:jump: Needless to say, it got that fire stoked under my ass for a good light.
Im in. Im now thinking 400w. Yup, I wanna treat em right. I figure on 12/12 that it shouldnt cost more than $20/ month. Ill just have to be even more vigilant w/ my power use but Im sure I can stay under $100/ month for the entire household.
So a new round of cloning is in order so I can keep the genetics around if they finish up all lemony.
Since Ive pruned all the primary fans and most of the useless twigs away, the leaf structure has become much more sativa-like in appearance. The leaflets are no longer so fat that they have to stack themselves on the stems.
The widow/diesels are finally starting to grow again after having been partially assimilated. Good news is that there is no sign of the borg - so far. I didnt give em open sesame yet as they werent ready for a deep watering - thatll probably be a few more days - maybe thursday. cheers
