Hello Everyone,
This is ColombianGold from the beautiful and crazy Bogotá. Colombia is the capital of the world in brickweed. This is why I decided to build my setup. I will do my best to be clear on my posts but understand english is not my main language.
Who said TAG was dead? Its not going anywhere but up.
I´m setting up a TAG (true aeroponics grow) due to is its efficiency and rapid growth. Its not a common way of growing but I think with some work and fine tuning its better than anything.
Its been a couple of years since my last grow and I am ready for the action. I only have experience on soil so this will be my first soiless All help will be highly appreciated. Like several of you I got bored of transplanting and due to my business I don´t have alot of time to work on the grow room.
When I mean Colombian Style it means work with ingenuity and simplification. There is no such thing as a local hydro shop so I´ve had to improvise a lot. Basically my main philosophy is ¨use what I got¨ so if you see unnecessary things on my setup, please tell me but its probably there because its what I got.
My grow room is probably the worst area you can find for growing healthy buds, its hot, low ventilated, small, uncomfortable, no odor control, loud, etc etc but its what I got! It is prefect for a sauna.
Not everything is bad, these are local specs.
Tap water
ph: 7.5
EC: 0, I thought my meter was DOA
temp out of sink: 68F
room temp: 72F
Bogota is famous for its clean and pure water supply.
Before I start I must thank Pod Racer, JustATry, whereisBrianV, GroNut. This is based on your wealth of information and inspired on your setups. Thank you and talk to you soon
This is my setup...
Flowering and vegging spaces, vegging side is currently storage.
1¨ PVC pipes with dual 1/2¨ tubing exits. Using PVC is major pain I DON NOT RECOMMEND IT, everything can be done with hoses, they are flexible and cheaper. I used PVC because I had already bought it.
My pump is a Pedrollo 1/2HP 1¨ outlet. Its ouput is 1.3gal/min @ 55 psi. Thats my reservoir, Its two of those plastic tubs stacked about 10 gallons (purple lid). The green tub is where the plants will be. I have space for 2 tubs, each one is connected to a blue hose with barbed fittings.
The lights: I have a 400 watt HPS for flowering and a 150 HPS for vegging. If you look closely at the lamps they are made out of 3cm thick mdf and galvanized sheet. I made this with my barehands and some carpentry tools. These are my second generation lamps, generation one were made out of bent galvanized sheet. If you look closely at the vegging side you can see the original lamp. I didn´t change it to the new one because the mdf one was too narrow and the light stayed in the lamp. I will use it to explain it. At one end there is a box that contains a fan that slides into the lamp. Everything on the lamp slides for easy maintenance, the glass, the box that contains the fan, and the box´s lid.
Generation 3 lamp is the simplest....too simple. I made it out of 12mm thick mdf which is too thin for high heat. If you are interested in building similar lamps be careful! Mdf is flammable! I tested mdf with 1000w heat emitting lights and they caught fire. HPS do not produce as much heat but still get hot, COOLING is a must so use common sense. For the 400 I used 30mm thick material and it works fine. After 2 years of growing it only has a ¨tanned¨ look.
I am using this one for my cloning machine. As soon as I get things going Iĺl build the mix of generation 2 and 3, I hope I can find an inline fan here, it will be difficult.
My cloning tub (completely temporal):
Its working with a maxijet pump using the aerator fitting. I know its not enough oxygen but its just temporal, I will soon get a stronger pump for sprinklers.
These are my practice babies: They are from bagseed and are taking a beating. My ph meter worked for one time and since then I´m taking educated guesses on the ph. Its some cheapo hanna. My EC meter is a truncheon and its worked fine.
Will continue on next post
