T5 UVB Lights?

I just got a little 24"x4 bulb SS NewWave T5 fixture & have it in flowering with my 400W HPS. I'd like to add a UVB light to the room - any recommendations on a good 24" T5 UVB bulb?

DH - So watta' you think of using these things?
Could I just pick up a regular 24" T8 fixture from HD & use one of the Repti-Glo 5.0 bulbs between my lights?
Do they come in 24"?
Do you need to use them on a separate timer?
God, I'm starting to annoy myself with all these questions!
I'd love to just pop in a single T5, but I read somewhere that you don't keep uvb bulbs on for the whole 12/12 - correct?
(thanks for the pics)

I found this - don't know if it's the right bulb, though...

although its a T5 it dosent say much about tis UVB output, but its probably the best thing u can get for a T5.....
they do make 2ft T8's and i got a fixture at HD... the 2ft is (lol) actualy 2$ more then a the 4' one...but i guess it dosent matter, i remember i got the bulb at petsmart they had 1,2,4 and CFL's the cfl's dont release ad much as the long tubes. ithink it was 20-40$....well worth it IMO.
i have mine on a seperate timer for 6 hours in the middle of the 12 hour flowering day... 3 hours after uvb turns on 3 hours b4 bed the uvb turns off.
im sure u can plug it in with the flower hps's and run it 12/12, i was merly trying to make it a MORE REALISTIC day....

DH - Thanks for the info - after some more searching, I found an aquarium T8 uvb kit (in 3 sizes) that works with your Repti-Gro bulbs. It has a remote ballast & timer (dimmer) that slowly brings up the the bulbs light & then dims it at the end of the cycle (it has 10, 12 & 14 hour cycles). The 2 - T8 bulbs are on separate leads from the ballast & it looks like you can just stick them where they might fit in. Blazeoneup mounted a couple of 24 in. uvb bulbs to the sides of his hood - looks pretty tricked out to me. Here's the link, what do you think about these?

DH - I did catch the u-tube video a ways back which got me curious & I read some of your other posts on uvb stuff & it looks like you have been using them for a while - what kind of results over no uvb have you noticed?
I'm still building up my grow light system & it doesn't look like it would be very expensive to add a few more bulbs to my closet if it help to produce better buds.

dontstepongrass - It looks like some major uvb debates going on in your thread - still haven't heard from anybody about using T5 uvb's in their grows. DigitalHippy's single tube T8 with a ReptiSun bulb seems cheap enough to try, but since I only have 1 grow under my belt, I won't be able to vouch for their effectiveness.

major debates = major arguments lol.

yeah, i too am fairly new to all this so if i got it and implemented it i might not notice the difference as my strains aren't quite dialed in yet. for $40-$50 i might try it tho.

yeller- check my page, robotwithdreams (i think is the name) posted a link with uvb outputs of many reptile bulbs on the market. worth a looksy!

The easier way to add UVB is with T8 tubes for reptiles (better the higher UVB content, the 10% models).

For a larger room, go for a UV mercury lamp.

USIO does some nice UV T5 lamps. On tubes shape, i believe its only avalaible peaked at 356nm. They produce some models peaking at 306nm, wich is perfect for our application. They comes as not integrated CFLs for 4 pin sockets (standard 4 pin or 2G11):http://www.ushio.com/products/uv/lowpressureblacklight.htm
They have true UVB HID lamps of various wattages, too.

The tube you linked is actinic, but not UVB emiting. Most black lights emits over 350nm, and THC enhancement seems to be way more effective around 300nm (285-315nm). UVA seems to be little effective promoting either THC content or photosynthesis.

PS: after searching better the USHIO site, the G15T8E lamp fit what you seek for: 15w of power, 3W of UVB output 306nm peaked (a very nice 20%), and 43,6cm long (~17"). For other people seeking for 4ft 40W UVB tubes, the G40T10E have 9,3W of UVB output and 5Kh of life.

dsog - can't seem to find the link you mention...
knna - Way to go! - Thanks for the info from the Ushio site - It also looks like their Super HPS bulbs might give the Eye Horts & SolarMax's a run for their money. Either way, a 2' T5 or T8 uvb is gonna end up in my plants along with the million other experiments I'm running. Who knew these little plants would turn me into the scientist/chemist/hvac/plumbing/electrical/botanical kind of guy I'm becomming.
