Suspicious power usage?

I'm considering the idea of moving and perhaps stepping up my operation.

If so, I'm going to be drawing ~10kW.

Would that be suspicious? If so, what should I do about it?

Thanks.

Depends on the size of house you are moving into and the power usage of those in your surrounding area, living in similar sized homes, as to what is considered "suspicious"...

That aside, it also depends on what part of the country you are in...

Power companies dont give a damn about anything but if you pay your bill or not in my experience.

That also depends on where you live...

Some companies have specific departments for identifying "irregularities in power consumption" that they say are geared towards finding downed lines or power that is being stolen / diverted...but other patterns are also noticed by such divisions. What they do or don't do with that information...who knows.

But it's not smart to assume the best of anyone simply because you are paying them money.

For the most part the power company just wants your money. But always a good idea to take into consideration what city/state you live in and how big the house is. For a normal 3 bedroom house I've always heard 6k watts is safest number to stay at if you are also living in the house. You could run two rooms with 5k watts each and have lights on Flip Box so you only have five ballasts for 5k watts. But most important is to keep the bill always paid up to date.

I'm with dank frank- it depends, on a lot of factors. I'd be leery of smart meters if you have a choice of location with or without.

Smart meters let the power company create a database, track specific customer usage over time & create search programs to identify specific power profiles. Their level of cooperation with LEO, official & unofficial, varies by location. They can identify when specific kinds of loads come on, the exact time & duration as well. In some places, you can supposedly check your own past usage online.

Pretty much a grade A #1 rat bastard for anybody who has access & wants to use it that way.

Old style analog meters just create a running total with zero detail, making them the obvious choice for growers.

Holy shit...

def gotta look at more after this lil blurb from the link 3rdeye posted

Overall, these 1800 or so new studies report abnormal gene transcription (Section 5); genotoxicity and single-and double-strand DNA damage (Section 6); stress proteins because of the fractal RF-antenna like nature of DNA (Section 7); chromatin condensation and loss of DNA repair capacity in human stem cells (Sections 6 and 15); reduction in free-radical scavengers – particularly melatonin (Sections 5, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17); neurotoxicity in humans and animals (Section 9), carcinogenicity in humans (Sections 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17); serious impacts on human and animal sperm morphology and function (Section 18); effects on offspring behavior (Section 18, 19 and 20); and effects on brain and cranial bone development in the offspring of animals that are exposed to cell phone radiation during pregnancy (Sections 5 and 18). This is only a snapshot of the evidence presented in the BioInitiative 2012 updated report.

electric sure can get you busted...there was a case here in ca where they raided a family home and only found a mom doing laundry for folks...the high bill drew attention and the people dropping off laundry were suspicious activity....lol...no drugs found

Believe Dank peeps , few years back i bumped up power to total of 12,000 watts
5 bedroom house , and bills were payed always before due date but what happened next surprised me ( No Smart Meter )
See that house you live in ???? has been on the gird for possibly 20 years that is a average house meaning on electricity. and few people have lived in there within that time frame
They can easily go back 10 years and even more lets just say when internet came out to the public water works / electricity data home power /water usage started being recorded house to house DO NOT KID YOUR SELF

I Got flagged yup , got a call from power company saying they noticed quite substantial increase in power usage , looking back from previous years etc and few days before call. There were power trucks in my area,,,, looking at poles etc . I would guess probably also tracking where its going to She was asking more or less WTF am doing
So i explained ..... it was middle of winter, and thankfully. Furnace oil prices were up i told the person on the phone that i added 1000 watt heaters in all the rooms few in rec room , living room etc being it was still cheaper then oil costs presently
They bought it and un flagged me

YOU may not be so lucky
Under current law, customers have no constitutional right to protect data held by third-party companies they do business with, whether it be a utility, bank or Internet travel service,. In an age when more business is being conducted electronically, police often no longer need to bust down your door to learn your habits and intimate secrets,

As always, the moral of the story is don't get greedy. High flying & flying under the radar are incompatible goals. If your power bill is several times that of your neighbors, it won't go w/o notice.

The power company cannot share your power info with anyone. This is what my dad told me when we specifically talked about pg&e and cannibis growing. He was an executive in a large power company and said its private info between you and your service provider, and they can't narc on you to any law enforcement agency. Power usage is not evidence also, the power company just wants your $$$$$ growing cannabis indoors in good for business
