Superoot Air Pots

Hello ICMag-ers!

Please forgive if this has been covered in the forum, as I'm a relative newcomer, but I am interested in people's actual experience with the air pot design. I've been using soil-less medium (Pro-mix BX w/Perlite) in regular 3gal pots. I'm thinking about upgrading to bigger pots and bigger plants, and wonder if the price is worth the investment in the air pots (as I need to buy new pots anyway...about 40).

Thanks for your responses....

I have downsized my air pots to 3liter and have a white widow with a 4"x12" bud..sadly it has got a little bit of bud rot due to its size.

airpots from superoots are definitely worth it. i would say to go for the 12 gallon airpots with a base as well as some of the smaller airpots so you can transplant. i'd go for the 2 gallon size for my smaller airpot.
if you really like the airpots, there is also a 40 gallon size that comes without a base. im gonna be using those for my next outdoor grow :).
peace

thanks Capt.
12 gal is too much for my purposes, but the 12.5 liter ones look perfect.
I'm thinking of buying some of the little ones (.3 liter) to replace the 5.5 in square pots I use for veg time.

Well, I just got 8 16L Air-Pots, and was wondering if anyone had advice about using them with either Pro Mix or Coco??
(I am in Pro Mix now, moving to Coco next cycle).

I do 1/2 my veg in 1 liter airpots (from rooting cubes thru @ 10"tall, then replant to 1 gal for the balance of veg) and have seen better root structure and plants. I use ProMix as a base with extra EWC, perlite and kelp meal, limed with dolomite lime (Basically a LC#2 mix). All in all, I re-pot 3 times, using the airpots first and I like the results.

thanks to both of you for your responses!

My whole gameplan is changing to less plants, more veg time. longer per cycle, but much easier. Hopefully better yield, too...

grapeman, what size airpot do you end up in? I'll probably veg 1/2 in the 1 L size, then repot to the 16L, giving them more veg time in those, before switching to flower.

nice looking plants!! thanks for the pics! I've always wanted to try Big Bud. I've heard mixed reviews about the effect. What's your opinion?

happy new year to all...

after my initial veg in the 1 liter airpots, I move to a 1 gal "Plant Warrior" pots. They have air slits on the outside bottom and a hollow cone of air slits in the middle.

After full veg I replant again into a standard 3 gal pot (without air holes) and finish the grow. The roots I develop using the first 2 pots in veg create a good enough root system to finsih the grow in standard pots. One of these days when I hav move time, I'll get some larger air pots for flower. Too lazy for now.

Ive just downsized from the 6.ltr pots to the 3.ltr pots. as ive found it almost impossible to root bound them,

There going to be hand watered, and potted in straight coco. straight up and down in 60 days.

hey mate
i cant really tell much about the big bud ,its my first try with them ,but what can i say is that ,i cut of all the little branches with few leaves in veg time ,and because i didnt smoke anything in 3 months i just dry the branches in microwave and smoked them and get really stoned hahahahahahaahaha high ,not indika type smoke ,like powerfull adventure style smoke ,so i hope it will be the same when its finished ,but the plants looks good and buds very big now and tryhomes everywhere
also i could easyly get the same plants inside the 1 liter pots ,this is the purpose of the pots ,if u read info about them in their website u see that u can keep huge plants inside small pots with enough nutes and waterring

thanks for chiming in Bob! I also am handwatering, and wondered about your setup:
area? lights? # of plants? height? veg time? do you veg in the same pots?

sorry for all the questions, but you're the first I've been in contact with doing the same as me.. what type of nutes?

thanks man,

600w light. 25 plants. no veg time as such, once the clone has rooted it may get around 7days in a small plant pot,in my clone station, plants placed in rows of 5x5 covers 1m sq.

In the 6ltr Airpots i vege for 4 weeks and ended up with monsters, so decided to go smaller and have less bushy plants.

I decided to go with coco this run, purely based on the fact that the biggest plant in the 6ltr Airpots was in coco and the other 2 weren't .

Here is pictures of my roots using Plant Warrior Pots. I make my own Plant warrior pots for beginning stage 4x4 pots with a cone (neo-nets) in the bottom.

thanks beans!

and thanks bob! I guess you don't have any trouble with the coco spilling out of the bottom of the air-pots? I was thinking of putting a layer of hydroton at the bottom....

I am going for 4 plants per 600, so I think the 16L will be perfect, if not overkill, but I'll gladly have too much root space, helps with yield, and nute/pH problems....

beans, I've never seen that pot style. is that what warrior pots are like? interesting...

I use the 1.9 gal air pots in a SCROG set up w coco. Using coco the 1.9 airpots are equal to 3 gal soil pots. The only problem that seems to plague everyone is fungus gnats. The gnats can fly in and out of the holes. Other than that they work great for me.

aha! finally, something to look out for. thanks, man. I will take extra precautions against the fungus gnats. Thanks as well for your info that the 1.9 gal pots are equal to 3 gal soil pots. how did you come up with that?

The coco really packs in the roots. Roots love coco. Something to do w/ the cation exchange between the roots and coco. I use to run 3gal pots in soil/organic. Now i run 1.9 air pots w/ coco. The plants are about the same size maybe a smidge smaller; but more vigorous/healthier. Here's a pic from my album for perspective.
