has anybody heard of a new bulb called super metal halide? i was browsing stuff on e-bay and i saw them for sale. was wondering if they are any better than regular MH. the add says that it is supposed to dwarf any HPS bulb in lumen output, but i didn't think that was fair because they are both in different spectrums of light still, i assume. tell me what you guys think.

Normally a HPS will put out more lumens than a MH of the same wattage although agrosun MH 1K lamps are higher in par watts than 1K hortilux HPS.If it had a par watt rating it would be worth considering but advertising high lumens would be more appropriate for underground garage lights than for growing

The output of a 400 watt incandescent bulb is about 25 watts of light, a 400 watt metal halide bulb emits about 140 watts of light. If PAR is considered to correspond more or less to the visible region, then a 400 watt metal halide lamp provides about 140 watts of PAR. A 400 watt HPS lamps has less PAR, typically 120 to 128 watts, but because the light is yellow it is rated at higher lumens (for the human eye).

Thats a good way of putting it,you really understand this shit. The higher lumens of HPS vs. the higher PAR watts of MH make for difficult decisions of exactly which lamp to use when.Common senswe would dictate agrosun MH be used throughout veg and flower but I love my hortilux HPS.If I could find the 1K agrosun's at a price that isnt ridiculous, maybe I'd try a flowering cycle with them

Wow unicorn only 470 par watts for a 1K MH,the warm agro's are low in par watts compared to agrosun gold MH,it's 580 par watts.A 1K hortilux is 535 par watts.Have you ever ordered lamps online?I've ordered just about everything else but that lol

haha me too!I used agrosun for a couple years till I came to my senses lol,for veg a horty lamp just isnt necessary! Not at all even a little the money is better spent on your flowering lmaps where it will count.I wouldnt dream of flowering with a commercial lamp though.Do you order your commercial halides online?Where?

Yeah, they were packaged very well...several layers of 1/2" bubble wrap around the light boxes inside another box. I was kinda disappointed that they came in a box clearly marked "Peruvian Bat Guano", but the sender's addy was pretty discreet. I think you can request plain packaging from them now tho.
