just wanted to drop in and get some opinions or hear people's experiences with males that decide to change sex and go female. Dj short claimed in his book that males like this are rare and good for breeding as they will increase the propbablity of females in the offspring. I'm currently growing a cross i did of seeds of Africa's malawi gold x sick meds williams wonder. i only had 4 seeds and ended up with 3 beautiful females and then this male thats going he/she on me now. i always like to back up everything i grow and was wondering if using the pollen on my ladies would be a good or bad idea..

the he/she in question

i personally wudnt breed with a she/male ................a male with the odd pistil i would consider ..............or a exceptional female that throws out the odd (1 or 2) pollen sacks

i had a ace zamaldelica thai leaning female ...........that was about 20% male.........and even know was super strong and beautiful smell and flavour .............it was too much male to breed with ...... she had to die

This already came up in a few threads over the years. I have seen them twice in Serious Seeds Bubblegum. I always killed them though I have the book by DJ Short. You can be the first to end all the discussion if you breed with the male and post your experiences. But I guess you won't, lol.

I used them, they were stellar males. If your male is not stellar to begin with then chop it. I saved the pollen and used it on other plants.

He's not wrong (lol i said it). I don't really remember the exact term for them, i think it's andromonoecy and androdioecy (depend on formation). They are really very rares, since the middle of the 90's i got only three until now. Used for the "personnal science" and i firmly think than a rockstable male is more valuable at long term.

Now when you have a "streamlined" production of both flowers on the specimens, you have just a latent herm than is having fun. Not a male or a female really. They are all but rares today, due to the planet's alignment off course. The only theory tolerated.

very common trait when breeding with landrace sativas. I've seen this with afropip's malawi gold, BSC's punto rojo, CBG's durban, and a manipuri hybrid, so I guess it's rare if you don't breed with these sorts of plants and common if you do. However, I don't know if there are any benefits of breeding with a he-female if that's even a word....
