Super Bowl XLII - Vegas Point Spread
Univ of Phoenix Stadium, Feb. 3rd, '08
Kick-off for the Bowl is @ 6:18pm EST

Date & Time..............Favorite..........Spread...............Underdog
2/3 6:18 ET...........New England.........-12...................NY Giants

That's the official spread sports fans.......

I went 1 and 1 on my picks from the division playoffs
and although I did pick the Packers to win that game
I was rooting all the way for the Giants to win.

I'm going to do the same thing for the Super Bowl as
well, I'm picking the Patriots to win the game because
Brady has the experience and the great team that the
Patriots are they always find a way to win.

I'll be rooting for the NY Football Giants to win the Bowl.
They've been playing with some real heart & the defense
has come to life, if the Giants don't turn the ball over
they'll have a good chance at winning.

Since early Nov. the Patriots have cooled down quite a
bit. Four games decided by four (4) points or less and to
variety of less than stellar teams. Brady's been throwing
interceptions in his last few games and the team as a
whole looks vulnerable to me. If they play like they did
against the Ravens, Eagles, or Jets then the Giants will
win the Super Bowl.

BTW,
I'll make an offering to the Gods of good fortune & karma
in the name of the first Toker's Den stoner who can tell
us all the actual origin of the name "Super Bowl" which
was coined in the early 60's.
Said aforementioned offering will be a kief topped bong
rip of one of my favorite current choices.......

I have a feeling this is going to be a snoozer... if the Pats go up by more than two touchdowns I'm turning it off...

6 months pay betting on the giants. 12 points is way to big of a spread. Patriots win by 10.

One day Lamar Hunt, architect of the AFL and owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, came across his daughter's Super Ball and was given the inspiration for the name of the championship game between the upstart American Football League and the old-guard National Football League.

"Why not," he wondered, "call our championship game the Super Bowl?"

The name caught on quickly and thus, an American tradition was born.

The first of these "Super" contests pitted Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers (13-2) against Hank Stram's Chiefs (12-2-1) and was played before 61,946 fans in Los Angeles' 100,000-seat Memorial Coliseum. The television audience for this game is estimated to have been approximately 60 million viewers.

The game itself featured an unlikely hero in Green Bay wide receiver Max McGee. McGee was strictly a backup and did not receive much playing time. In fact, in 14 games during the 1966 season he had caught only four passes for 91 yards.

Legend has it that Max had spent most of the previous night out on the town and was in no shape to play football, especially in a championship game. But he felt safe in knowing the only way he would get into the game was if Boyd Dowler got hurt.

McGee was later quoted as saying, "I waddled in about 7:30 in the morning and I could barely stand up for the kickoff. On the bench Paul (Hornung) kept needling me, 'What would you do if you had to play?' And I said, 'No way, there's no way I could make it.'"

But Dowler did get hurt early in the game and McGee was suddenly thrust into a game he had no business being in.

Just moments after entering the game though, he caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Bart Starr to cap off an 80-yard drive that gave the Packers an early lead. On the day, McGee caught seven passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns as the Packers went on to win the first Super Bowl, 35-10.

Each player on the Packers received a $15,000 bonus for winning the game, while members of the Chiefs earned $7,500. A one-minute television commercial sold for $75,000 to $85,000; pocket change compared to the millions spent on air time now.

Since early Nov. they've won only 3 games by 14 points or more & two of those games were against the Dolphins & the Bills, both fighting their way out of the basement. The way the Giants are playing they're going to be very tough opponents to beat. They draw the least amount of penalties as well. Would it be too broad a statement to say that it just might be about any and all turnovers next Sunday? One or two turnovers at crucial moments can wreak havoc in a game, tough to say what might be a deciding factor. As stated above, I'm picking the Patriots to win (as always my picks are w/o the spread) as my straight up feeling but rooting for the Giants all the way.

Best bet here with the spread? The Giants plus the 12 points, if they lose it won't be by any more than 3 to 7 points.

True, any given Sunday... hell if the Ravens don't call that timeout on 4th down they beat the Pats... and then they lose to the Fish.... so who knows anything can happen. I may end up watching just for the Bud Light commercials :)

It's going to be a really close game and the giants have a real shot of winning it. The spread right now is such a joke. If your in Vegas, know a bookie, have an online gambling account you better get at it--easy money. I'm going to be posted up at the MGM for the game.

18 and Doh!
duuuude, i might be just as nervous as the actual players. As a hardcore patriots hater this is the most important game of my life. If the patriots win they will be immortal and patriots fans will be able to shove it in my face forever. as a jets fan it doesnt get more intense than that.

GIANTS!!!!!!!
peace

hey o.gkushowns,
I'm a big Jets fan myself, I even traveled to the old Foxboro Stadium in Oct 2000 to see the Jets cream the Patriots 34-17. In fact it was 14-0 Jets within the first 2 minutes, a fast touchdown strike by Testaverde & an interception run back for the TD just 2 plays later, both scores right in my corner of the endzone, a cheap seat I bought for $25.00 from a local.

As mentioned I'll be rooting for the Giants for sure.

I live less than an hour away from the stadium so I'll probably drive down there and try to find some tailgate parties or see what's goin on around there. there's no way i could actually get a ticket though, prices are so fuckin ridiculous. i forget how much they are but it's insane. i know it's in the thousands for the worst tickets where you're so far away you can't even see anything

Im taking the Giants they rocked New England in the reg season and almost got that win. They will love the warmer weather and Manning is looking strong, I bet Tiki Barber wishes he would have stayed one more season.

I was at that game! Wayne Chrebet shredded the Pats, though Kevin Faulk had a SWEET kickoff return for a TD.....

Ogkushowns, prepare to be disappointed. Your team sucks.

Cheers!

i hate the patriots. they have no class. they're coach bill belicheat wants to run the score up to make a point in the begining of the season. "to make a point" in the weakest division in football. excluding the patriots, the AFC east (Jets,Bills, and Dolphins) record was 12 measly wins and 36 losses. 36 games lost, by three teams, the weakest, poorest performing teams in the NFL. the pats arent anything special. 6 of their wins came from that division. i despise tom brady, but i hate to say he is one of the best in the league. my pick is the Giants. they know what it takes to beat the pats, being their loss came in by only 3 points. and if Peyton isn't playing this weekend, I gotta root for Eli.

happiest day in my life

Lets just hope the refs dont start with the outlandish "keep the perfect season alive" calls that we have seen for the last 10 weeks of this season! Its been a real joke. To pats fans its a couple questionable calls, rest of the football loving world its a big conspiracy. How about we wont take your 1st round draft pick for cheating, we will take your 3rd round pick. Need more examples?

well it was a tragic game. the colts had the win in the bag, even had the lead in the 4th quarter. and then Mr. Shithead himself brought the pats back. I think that if the Colts went to foxborrow this year, the same thing would've happened last year, the AFC championship right? but that's football. anybody can win. Nobody expected the Browns to be a winning team, but they won 10 games or so. but the Chargers ended the season for us (the colts). and I don't like Phillip Rivers, but tom brady is at the top of my shitlist. I really don't like the pats, or chargers right now. That's why I'm leaning for the Giants. If not Peyton, then Eli.

remember the Peyton SNL? it was pretty good.

Anchor Bar Buffalo Chicken Wings Recipe

ingredients:
4 pounds Chicken wings
Freshly ground black pepper
Salt (if desired)
4 cups Vegetable Oil
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
5 tablespoons Franks Red Hot sauce or Tabasco sauce
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar

Directions:

1. Chop off the tip of each chicken wing, and discard it. Chop the wing in half (cutting at the joint) to make 2 pieces. Grind on fresh black pepper and sprinkle with salt if desired.

2. Heat the oil over high heat in a deep skillet, Dutch oven, or deep-fat fryer until it starts to pop and sizzle (around 400 degrees F). Add half the chicken wings and cook until they're golden and crisp, stirring or shaking occasionally. When done, remove them to drain on paper towels and cook the remaining wings.

3. Melt the butter or margarine over medium heat in a heavy saucepan, add the hot sauce and the 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Stir well and remove from the flame immediately.

4. Place the chicken on a warm serving platter, pour the sauce on top, and serve
