Sunset Sherbert bag seed project .

Three years ago while I was in the Sacramento area , I grabbed a few units units of some packs of Sunset Sherb . My guy has some good connections in the Bay Area ..

When I got them to their destination , upon examining, I saw one of the units was heavily seeded .. When I made said person aware that I got a unit that was seeded , he realized that was deliberately pollinated with a Durban from a good source . At first he asked me to send it back , he was a little salty about his own error . Than he said it was cool , he had enough backup , do as you wish with them ..

So i did , Here’s the progeny .. I’m not a Cookies fan per se.. But these did well for me outdoors . They produced chunky buds that have bakery aromas and Durban spice . The Sherb leaners purpled and were more Indica dominant , the Durban leaners finished a week earlier and didn’t purp . They all weren’t huge yielders . But they stacked well and were very mold resistant in the NE rain .

I currently gifted 50 of those beans to some kind folks who are going to help with selection and see what pops up . I have roughly 285 beans left .. Once the initial run is done and we select the best , I’m trying to source the best Durban I can find to do the bx , I would ask the original source for the Durban but he’s had radio silence for quite some time . Sometimes they’re good in those bagseed as we all know ..

Thx ! I’m by no means a breeder but it’s a cool project to cut my teeth and learn .. I’ve made my own seeds for years and bx’d to a cut , but I have a lot to learn yet .. Selection for good breeder males is key I’d say .

were there any males in those beans or was it all fems?

was the whole pound evenly seeded or just a handfull of buds filled with beans like if someone hit 2 or 3 lowers hard with bagged pollen and then it got mixed into everything by mistake?

it's freaking hard to sort hundreds of beans even if you could afford lab testing to help you do it.

the Wedding Cake clone came to me with a fully seeded ounce of flower last year after she hermed on a friend and I popped a couple dozen but never even sampled them all, didn't see any thing that bested the mom but who knows what I might have missed?

same story on the Triangle Kush, still smoking my way through the first ounce of the real TK I scored with the clone that hermed on my buddy and last nights joint revealed 20 more beans.

super excited to see what might be in them.

I've always enjoyed these old strains that were bagseed finds but some of the best new shit that I'm loving today like the Mac1 and Cake were sweet finds thru pheno hunting and pollen chucking.

never know what you might find but it's like the lotto only worse, gotta grow them for months to see AND hold onto hella clones while you sort the results.

Hey Chunky it was an evenly seeded LB . There were males too .I’ve just done a seed run with some trusted folks so I’ll be watching the journals and we’ll take cuts of all the females and cull the them accordingly . You’re right about hunting .. It can be tedious but I have a good feeling so far ..

I’m looking forward to hearing what comes from the TK so keep us posted.. If anything special comes out of my little project I’ll defiantly enter it . You never know .. Thx for chiming in Chunky , like I said your OGKB journey lit a fire for me to devote my time to this chuck lol . Sometime some gold in those bagseeds

I think so too .. Preliminarily testing , I found an odd anomaly , A bud growing out of a leaf with one male flower on it .. At day 50 of flowering .. None visible elsewhere .. Otherwise no nanners to speak of ..
