Sunmaster Cool Deluxe or Horti Blue?

Currently using 400 watt Sunmaster Warm Deluxe bulbs for my veg room.With temps starting to warm up outside and my cooling capacity maxed inside,I am going to switch to cooler bulbs for the summer months.

I have used a Hortilux 1000 watt MH Blue bulb once in the past and was impressed with how little heat output it gave off.Does anyone have experience with the Sunmaster Cool Deluxe?Do they also burn with little heat output?Have you been satisfied with this bulb's performance?

They are easier for me to source....just trying to decide which way to swing it.I can always special order in the Hortis..just trying to make an informed decision...thanks for any experience anyone can offer.

sunmaster cool deluxe is good bulb. can go from start to finish w/ either cool or warm deluxe.
always mix in a warm/cool/neutral w/ 940 eye conversion. mixed spectrum has been rewarding.
have not used eye mh blue though, only 1k (940) conversion. if could only use 1 bulb, would probably be 1k sunmaster warm. most spectral outpt for single bulb. box claims 345 par watts (questionable), but does put out red+blue pretty evenly.
w/ cool deluxe, short bushy tomato plants full of fruit...

I need a low heat output bulb first and foremost.This is not about what bulb is best...conditions for me over the summer dictate using the coolest bulb possible.The rest of the year,I have my spectrum in perfect shape for my needs!

understanding cool bulb info request. never let heat really deter from using bare bulb 1k's. even if the plants get 2" away from bulb, as long as temps dont go over 88*f, will be ok. have gone to 90 b4; and when do, just adjust night temps to like 81 to maintain @ least 10* bridge.
ideally, keep temps @ 80-85 day and night. so, when temps get to 82-88*f during lights on, they stay @ 78-82 lights off.
plants sense temp changes based on average daily+weekly avg's. want diff to be zero, generally - but during mid-flower, actually raise night temps higher than day temps, if only by 1*f.
air flow in garden (lots of it) seems to work, w/ 1k's bare bulb, and no restriction on plant proximity to bulb(s).

note: may be beneficial to try to keep actual leaf temps little lower than ambient air temps. if ambient temp 85, try to get leaves to 82-84.

Your are a sweetie to provide all the temp info PDG,but I understand all about temps and spectrums etc.

I am just trying to get some feedback from folks who have used Sunmaster Cool Deluxe bulbs with regard to their HEAT OUTPUT.

You might also try a Ceramic Metal Halide, I hear they produce less heat.

1 hint: when comparing bulbs of the same wattage, the bulb with the most lumen rating will theoretically produce less heat (energy gets converted into light rather than heat).

Sunmaster Cool Deluxe bulbs put out about the same heat as Sunmaster Warm Deluxe bulbs. The "warm" and "cool" are referring to color, not temperature. As far as low heat goes, MH generally burn hotter than HPS. I'll take your word for it, but I don't know that Horti Blues are much cooler than any other MH. As Sloppy said you may want to try CMH if heat is your primary issue, I don't use them myself (when they come in 1Ks, I'll probably switch), but from what I've read they run much cooler than std MH, and they emit a fairly balanced spectrum.

there is no comparission between the bulbs....the Horti Blue is better in just about everyway possible.....although...the best method would be to purchase both bulbs and run them at different stages....the horti blue is twice the price of the sunmaster bulb....the hortiblue will give results that no other bulb on the market can replicate...u shouldnt use any of these bulbs to flower with ....

I use cool delux for veg and love them. also use them late in flower.

Are you thinking that "Cool Delux" means that the bulb runs COOLER??

Lawls, nononononono that means it has a "cooler spectrum" more in the blue or "cool" end of the wavelength scale....



Only bulb that is gonna be cooler is less wattage.....

No I was not thinking that the "Cool Deluxe" meant the bulb burned cooler.

I HAVE used the Horti Blue before and found that bulb burned very cool.Just asking to hear from someone who HAS used the Sunmaster Cool Deluxe with regard to how much heat they output only because they are easier for me to source but sounds like I am going to go with the Horti Blues in 400.

Phillthy-appreciate you sharing your firsthand experience.Very helpful.Why do you use them only in late flower and not throughout?Just curious....thansk in advance!

I've used a lot of different 1K horticultural lamps in my vegroom and for the life of me standard MH will veg a plant just as good as any horticultural lamp,and burn as cool.In the scheme of things a few hundred bucks here or there is really nothing in this game,but man its just a waste for sure I've found out.I wont use anything but horties in flower of course but I'll never use a "horticultural" lamp to veg plants again

I totally agree. I used to run Solarmax in veg until one died (I dropped it ) and I just replaced it with a std MH I had around. No difference whatsoever. So now I run all std MHs, still no difference. Although I do think seedlings like Sunmaster Warm better than std. I just switched that to a Phillips Retrowhite CMH, and I think they like that even better. And they aren't any leggier from the extra red, but they get some MH light too.
