Anybody here got any experiences with conversion bulbs? I'm getting a SunMaster 600W hps to mh conversion bulb. Will be used on a Sunlight Supply System 1 ballast. I didn't feel like buying a new ballast and bulb so I got the conversion bulb to save some money.
I bought some lights that include an HPS ballast with HPS bulb, and MH conversion bulb. Everything works fine; although I notice that the lumens rating of the MH conversion bulb is lower than the HPS bulb. I don't know if this is a normal characteristic, or whether efficiency is lost in the conversion process.
I looked at these in detail but thought the spectrum was really weak o the conversion bulbs. So I'm sticking with fluoros for the veg. 600W Hortilux HPS for flower.
Yeah I was just asking because I got a 250mh with a Hortilux Super Blue bulb and that damn thing always seem like it going to blow up when I turn it on. The thing will have small bursts of light and then BAM full power and all is good.. No the bulb is not defective. I think it works great. I need more veg power then T-8 or T-5 fluoros can put out. My bloom wattage is 3K. So once my clones root I put them under T-5's for a couple days of adjustment and then to the 250. Now I need things to move faster so here comes the 600.
Hello SKUNK420, I am currently using the 600w MH SunMaster bulb. It works very well keeping moms happy and vegging out plants. I've also stuck a few autoflowers under it and had good results. In 600w you will only find "conversion" bulbs because no one (that I know of) makes a regular 600w MH.
Hey Kermit, the lumen output for MH is considerably less then HPS, even when comparing conventinal bulbs. The inefficiency is not from the conversion rather how each produces light. As an example a typical 1000w HPS produces abt 145,000 initial lumens while a 1000w MH will only produce abt 110,000 intial lumens. HPS produces more lumens/watt then MH. This is the primary reason MH bulbs run hotter then HPS, what isn't turned into light is going to excess heat.
