anyone know anything about lumenmax relfectors from sun? saw some the other day and they look great for a 4x4 area. i have not seen anyone talk about or use them i wonder why?
I love the design of this hood but it's around $160 with socket/cord & no air cooling - great if you've got the overhead space & no real heat issues.
The SS2 rates as one of the best out there - $120 with glass & my favorite a/c design.
I personally believe the SS1 is a better reflector compared to the SS2. While the SS2 has much better airflow, its basically an enclosed batwing reflector that you can't bend. There are virtually no end sides so all that lost light is going in your ducting. The original and new SS1 has all four sides intact and is a little cheaper. SS1 is about 6" deep while the SS2 is about 8"; that can make a world of difference depending on your setup.
The LumenMax1 remind me of the old LumenArc from years back only without glass and air-cooling. I hear that they're good reflectors but if you require glass you're SOL. If you can find the LumenMax2 hoods you get glass but the smaller reflector only goes up to 400w and no air. Its also a lot pricier.
As far as LM vs. SS... I couldn't tell you. What I can tell you is that they're two different reflectors since one is rectangular and one is square. Company reports on how good their reflectors are should be taken with a grain of salt since the whole consumer level of the indoor gardening and hydroponic industry is based solely on gimmicks and package deals. Case in point: some personal testers say the original SS1 tests better than the newer SS1 and SS2.
I totally agree about the SS1 - the SS2's end venting in skinny closets is a PITA - but I'm a bit predjudice cause my grow space is more rectangular & the SS1 hood (and size) would be perfect for me - the side venting of the SS1 makes small space exhausting with a scrubber a bit of a chalenge, but I don't own one yet, so who am I to say?
You'd laugh at my current 1990's, break bent, screwed together, antique hood I just inhereted, but an SS something is in my future.
