sun system 5

im in the middle of constructing a grow room and i have a 400w hps for my flower room. after some research i think im going to buy a 250w mh for my veg room. my question is about the sun system 5 light with the built in ballast. has anyone used this? im unsure if i want to get this or just buy a remnote ballast and reflector. thanks for any input

I have used a 250 with the ballast attached, the only issue you face is heat from the ballast will be in that room/chamber. There are T5's which will give almost the same lumens with a better footprint for less $$. And virtually no heat. But they won't veg giants, not enough penetration. 12" no sweat!

probably a dozen atleast. maybe asmany as 20-30 if you find/use small pots.

You can jam 24 -30 well rooted clones in 16oz plastic cups under a 4 lamp x 4' t5.

Hold 2 or 3 back for small moms and you can fill that thing right back up 2 months later.

Now my Q is why? Since most strains grow 2/3rds while in bloom that would make them "6" feet! Unless you LST or chop or something you will end up with aprox three feet of usable bud on a "popsicle" stick. HID light penetration is only good to about three feet.
Now there are those that use vertical lites and supplemental side lighting but those are commercial set-ups. Do you have another way?

ok, Maryj315 I didn't realise you had "that" many T5's, damn. How many watts? I only run two four bank for veg and Moms. In HID they will get too tall if vegged to two feet unless vert or LST'ed.
Looks good, so anyone without HID or ventilation can get a very good grow with T5'S if you grow like Maryj315 that is.

I think I may have misunderstood what you were saying. When you said, they will not veg giants. Not enough penetration, 12 inches okay. I took that as you could not veg anything over a foot. Just for reference i veg with a eight bulb and a four bulb and a two bulb for seedlings and clones. I will usually run them 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet, depending on the mix of the strain and then they flower underneath 2000 W of HPS and sometimes they grow past the light. Sorry if I've misunderstood
