Sun light...

I see that most of you recommend a min of 5 hours of direct sun light. But im wondering if you are calling direct sun like any light that hits your plants without a mountain being in the way or are you talking about the type of sun light that you would get by being in the middle of an open field with not a tree around for 200 feet that might filter some of the sun and provide shade? For a guerrilla grower its HARD to find spots that will get 5 hours of sun without it passing behind a tree or 2 during the cores of the day, Unless you are willing to put it in the middle of an old strip mine where people are sure to find it.. So Im wondering what every one is calling DIRECT sun light.

As pono , I feel your pain , but southern exposure with a direct line east to west is your friend.....

If not able to have plants where the sun tracks , then yields will suffer....

Been many a yr since I grew outside , but what we did to make sure our plots and patches got better as each yr progressed , was to strike out and physically look for the best areas DURING the growing season after watering or tending the plants , cuz as I`m sure you know....

Sun during ANY time other than the growing season will be in a different place and fool you as to where you think the patches should be put...

We were fortunate to be able to grow on private Paper Co. land behind razor/constantine 10' chain link fence since my partner was the caretaker from a work study program at the university he attended as a botany major , and ...

We learned a LOT as the yrs went by from his knowledge gained on light paths during different seasons , along with the proper amendments needed for soil prep the following yrs , plus he went to work for said co after graduation and we did well for 12 yrs till he got hooked on cocaine and I shut it down...anyways...

Pot will grow in the shade , but increased plant numbers will help up your bottom line...Got a buddy in another state that waits to plant 100`s and 100`s of pre-vegged smaller plants backed up to a treeline in a cowpasture in early july to avoid big plants being spotted by LEO where the sun tracks from east to west , and easily pulls 35 lbs EVERY yr.....

I know that`s not much in medville , but it`s 100 K to him down here in Hell , so it`s all subjective and relative...1 key tidbit I`ll pass on is to plant early like we did and KEEP planting in different plots till at least July 4th to insure some type Harvey with critters , insects , and most of all , the human factor findin/takin your shit......anyways....

Good luck...DHF....:ying:....

ive grown on north facing slopes with much success

imho you need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to have decent plants.

if it goes behind a few trees for a hour or two a day its ok, but you still need to make up that time with pure light, if that makes sense

I spent the whole day walking out 60+ acers today with my sell phone and an app that lets you point the phone at the sky ant it shows you the suns path at different times of the year. I only found one spot where there was an unobstructed line with the sun for 5 hours and im not sure that will even work when the trees leaf out.. I checked the spot where i pulled 9oz off a plant last year and it only got about 4 hours, I bet I would have hit a lb on that plant if it got a full 8 hours.

Being an incognito grower....the optimum is long periods of direct sunlight, unobstructed. However, that's not reality in most guerrilla cases. Like others mentioned, try to get the most sunlight from south facing....and slightly hidden amongst trees/shrubs if you have to. El Sol is pretty powerful to penetrate photo spectrum rays through leaves.

Check the ground where you'd like to plant. Is it barren or is there some type of foliage or grass growing? That's n indicator if you are getting ample light.

If you are in a fog basin....all reason is tossed out!
