Sun Is Scorching My Plants

I was wondering - does anyone know of a nutrient deficiency (or even pest infestation) that makes your plants scorch in the sun?

Because with cannabis plants being sub-tropical, you wouldn't think that they would scorch the second the rays of the sun touch them.

My outdoor grow is on a balcony facing south, and gets sun from 9 to 18, and has worked for me before (although I have had leaf death in the past, due to magnesium deficiency).

Or is the sun just hotter nowadays, because of the greenhouse effect?

Are they near any windows? I notice the plants that were close to windows in my backyard sometimes got scorched leaves.

Are the pots on a hot surface?

If not there are fabrics made to shade plants.. Nursery would have it.

Sorry, I don't have a digital camera. I'm in the process of flowering, so I move them indoors during the dark period. There is a large pond outside, which does reflect light. The balcony is on the south, so it gets full sun from 10 to 6 PM. They are in front of a window (thanks for the idea - I hadn't thought about that, and I'll move them away from it).

You always think and are taught - the more light the better, so it is a little surprising to see your plants getting scorched. Although it is more an issue of any part that is exposed to the sun getting burned almost immediately. There was some lack K issues early on, because of the home made organic soil mix I used.

I wonder if there is such a thing as too much light for these plants (apart from temperature issues). But then, they get plenty of light in their natural habitat.

That was what I was thinking about too. Somehow, even in the winter the sun stings nowadays. Is that the thinning of the ozone layer, or something like that.

if you leave them in the direct sunlight and they are in need of h20 you will find them burned it happened to my lil gurls... earlier this summer but they are semi shaded now and that has helped.. peace..

I guess you get so worried about overwatering, that eventually you underwater, and get so worried about overfeeding, that eventually you underfeed.

did you start them with artificial lighting? you can't just move them into the full sun if they were started with artificial light, they need a few days to adjust to the sun

Just wanted to throw in my
I do not adjust, I go directly from CFL indoors to full sun outdoors, no hardening, no "adjusting". Everything works beautifully.

Nope. Ive fried plants going from 600w HPS to outdoors shade. It depends. WHen your outside temps are 100F 20F hotter then your indoors room and the sun is 10x brighter then your lamp, yeah the plant can freak. Best to put it in some bushes for the first week where it is very shaded and acclimate it to HEAT, and then the LIGHT seperately

Ok, I just bought a Lux meter. The light intensity indoors is 700 Lux, and full sun is 112,000 lux.

The kicker is that a few small cuttings I have in straight coco get full sun, and have no problem at all.

yes, plants, can and will get burnt and (you can bet your life) stressed out if you throw them straight into direct sunlight from ANY indoor setup. well, i suppose if you had a room full of 1k lights...

denial, i hesitate to throw any theories out windows. maybe your set-up is the exception, and not the rule. lucky.

now, tanz, you said you have cuttings in coco that are jamming along, doing fine? two questions, one; what are your other plants in? soil im assuming. ok two; if theyre in soil...and theyre doing poorly...um...why not put them in some coco? i love coco. thats my i love coco dance. yeah.

if you cant get into coco---and im telling you---all of you---if youre not into coco, you should look into it. results like hydro without all the fuss. clone in it. pop seeds. transplants. so easy. anyhow, i digress. cannabis loves sunlight. the only reason i can think of, with regards to leaf burn, has to be improper feeding. and that can pertain to a faulty watering regiment, ie. your letting the soil get bone dry before re-watering, or being a little heavy handed with your nutrients. properly watered, properly fed plants in full sun will grow beautifully. usually. like i said, there are always exceptions. hth.
