Well I stumbled across this product called sul-po-mag, it has a 0-0-22 reading. BAsically from what I understand it is organic epsom salts.

I think I heard about the product here somewhere thats why it clicked when I was at the garden store.

In any case have any of you used this product??

How did you use it?? Topdress or mixed in the soil ??

Did you notice any problems with the high mag and K content ?? Lany calicium imbalances ??

I am curious about this stuff too man...don't know much about it and haven't tried it yet thought it might be a great way to get some Mg into the soil when growing with coco. Hopefully someone who has used it will chime in here for us. I don't believe it is an organic epsom salt though. Here's a picture of some epsom that is omri certed. Hate epsom though.

Here is the product you're talking about. They have it here locally. I've not used it because I don't need that sort of amendment for my soil mix.

I doubt it is classified as "organic" by OMRI. The box doesn't mention OMRI if that's important to you.

Google the sulpomag and see what you come up with...to me, it's overkill on the P....but that's yo judgement call...If it's fine ground, I woulduse it in a soil mix itself....but would rather have a more ready supply of P....But it's not organic, it's natural...thing is...Only use something like a teaspoon per gallon of potting mix....

rocky,
Epsom Salts can be bought in the drugstore....it's for the magnesium content tthat we use it....It should be mixed with the potting mix @ around 1 teaspoon per gallon of potting mix...any deficences should be added at watering...it's water soluble in warm water....LC

i've used it for years, good product,no p overdoses or any other probs,i like a little of everything in my mix though.heres the info they provided where i got mine.
high yield crops remove these elements from the soil, and most trees use substantial amounts of sul-po-mag each fall.with a analysis of 22% sulfur,22% potash,11% magnesium.sulfur in the sulfate form, aids initial root growth.sulfur is translocated within plants and is involved in synthesis of sulfur aminio acids which combine to form plant protein.potassium helps root systems develop, increase plant vigor, and resistance to cold weather.sul-po-mag is an exellent natual source.1/4 cup per plant once a season.

yea and its pretty fine LV,looks like pink sand sorta.my 2cents.

LC, I know all about Epsom salts bro...I hate them. I was just posting up a pic of OMRI certified epsom. I was thinking that is a helluva lot of K as well ...think that's what you mean instead of P.

Canniption, since you use the stuff could you tell me how much you apply per gal? Even better would be a breakdown of your soil mix? Thanks man.

Sul - po - mag is potassium sulfate and magnesium sulfate. There is no phosphorus. It is a good source of potassium, magnesium, and sulfur. Plants need alot of all 3. Too much of this will cause a deficiency of calcium. So applying only knowing that you got enough calcium. The rate I have for containers is 1 tablespoon per month maximum per 10" container. Sprinkle it on the soil surface of a somewhat mature plant. Use your best judgement.

Happy growing icmag!

I am interested in the sul-po-mag from Eb stone and yes it is organic, at least with their product... I will more than likely add it at 1/4 strength and perhaps a couple pots with it at 1/2 strength,

I can always add more, it is alot easier than trying to take it away...

Good info on the calcium issues it may cause....

one of my mixes

40% (10gal) light potting soil
40% (10gal) Perlite
10% (2.5gal) Composted cow manure
10% (2.5gal) Worm casting
1 Tbls./gal. Blood meal
1 Tbls./gal. Bone meal
2 Tbls./gal. Rock Phosphate
3 Tbls./gal. Kelp meal
1/2 Tbls./gal. Sul-Po-Mag
Ferts -
5-1-1 Fish emulsion for veg.-1 tbls/gal. h2o every other watering.
Fox Farm Big Bloom-1 tbls./gal. and Fox Farm Tiger Bloom-2 tsp./gal. h2o for flower every other watering.

So I'm figuring on adding 1tbs of oyster shell and 1/2 tbs of sul-po-mag per gal oughta do the trick quite nicely. The oyster shell should take care of calcium. Hell I might add a 1/2 tbs of dolomite too. Still a little apprehensive about all that K...wonder if it will make the plants stretch like crazy.
