Stupid newbie question

Howdy all :tiphat:

I'm about to start growing White Widow under a 400 watt HPS in hempy buckets, watering with ph balanced distilled water and Gen Hydro nutrients. I have almost all of the information I need except one crucial piece: When do I start nutrients? I've read everything ranging from when the cotyledons die, to when the first set of true leaves sprout, to wait three weeks. Which answer is the right answer?

It depends on you strains needs. They are all different. I always tell people to ´read´the plant. They will tell you.

FWIW I would start off with 1\4 strength nutrients.

Freezerboy is the Mod in here and he is real good with those types of nutrients.

Sorry but I am a soil man.

But if Freezerboy does not make it in feel free to send him a PM he is real helpful and a Pro at the Hydro growing technique.

First off, thanks to you all for taking the time to answer my question. Basically, what I'm getting here is let the seedling grow a little bit (a few inches) then start it on 1/4 strength nutrients.

Not a Hempy guy but, because it generally deals with inert media, I'd feed from the beginning at 1/4 strength.

Distilled water is dead water. Hydros inventors, hundreds of years ago, determined it gave the worst results. It robs plants of essential nutes that nute mfgrs intentionally leave out expecting you to add them with tap water. GH even has a special hard water formula that is double extra lacking. Is there some reason you feel your tap water is bad?

what he said ^^^
plus when the cotyledons start to yellow and die off i figure you got about a couple days to a week depending on how big your pot is and how hot the environment before the next set of leaves starts to yellow and from there it will be a rapid decline till you feed em. start at 1/4 str and work your way up based on what the plants tell you.

First of all, apologies for not getting around to checking this thread sooner, but I was away from the internet.

I didn't now about that perpetual harvest thread. That's fantastic, thanks for that. I also didn't know about GH having a set of nutes for hard water. I'm going to try running my water through a filter, then letting the chlorine evaporate out. If I start getting nutrient lock or something due to contaminants in the water, I'll have to find another solution.

Will do. Thank you for the help.

Solid advice so far, rule of thumb you can always add more but cannot take out if added to much
