Streeeetching Problem

I have two females (bagseed) that have been in the same enviroment since they were seeds. They are now in day 20 of flower, under a 400w HPS. One of them has started the damndest stretch, so much that I am having to keep the light further away than I'd like. It's only on the 2 main stems from where it was FIM'ed in veg. One of them is about 10" and the other about 8" above the canopy. Is there anything at all that I can do? I'm afraid the other plant will suffer (or stretch itself) from the light being further away. I am already putting books or whatever underneath it to get it closer.
Any suggestions? Please?
I'll try to get a pic tommorrow.

You are better off putting some kind of blocks under the other one to get it up with the other. You also want to keep the light as close to the top of the plant as you can without burning them.

hmmm, my initial thoughts on this... your on day 20 of flower so a) its too late to do anything to them like trimming or lst because it will stress them b) the stretch is probably almost over if its an indica.... however if you have a sativa, then get ready to move that light up more and more, sativas stretch like crazzzzzy regardless.... easily over 3 feet if theyre vegged for any proper time. What was the pot like from that bag? heady or body? If the fan leaves are long and lanky theyre prolly more sativa, if theyre chubby theyre prolly more indica.
If your really worried about getting those lower nodes some light (im trying to imagine this, hard without a pic), you might want to think about getting an aircooled hood with a glass insert so you can place the light practically on top of the plant. this way the lower buds will be closer to the light becasue the upper branch wont be getting burned.

Like JJ said get something under the one that shorter, so they can be around the same height. You need to get the light as close as possible, and it's hard to do this if the plants are different heights.

It's too late to do anything now, but next time do this: Put them in a 1 or 2 gallon pot for vegging, and don't transplant until they are done stretching which should be a week or two into flowering. This should help minimize stretch, and then when the stretching is over and you transplant they will use the new space efficiently.

I keep tough plastic "kmart specials" about 2 gallon on hand but only use them to elevate shorter plants.I always try to have my plants about the same height which usually requires "upping" the shorter ones with strong pots

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I have the shorter plant on a 2 gallon bucket so it's close canopy wise. But damn, a 2 gallon bucket? That ought to give you some idea of how much it's stretched. They were vegged for a month under a T5, then switched to the hps at the same time. I think I screwed up topping it. I have a couple of pics so I'll see if I can post them (new camera, just figuring it out).

Here are a couple of pics :

Notice how that one stem is about 1 foot above the rest of the canopy? And like I said in the previous post, I have the shorter plant on a 2 gallon bucket to supplement the hieght. But when I do that, then the first plant that is stretching, doesn't get the optimum amount of light to the rest of it's budsites. Will this effect them in the long run? I am now going to search some threads on supercropping....
Again, thanks for all your help. I really do appreciate it.

nice plants :joint:
i would just boost her up till they finish. looks like your doing just fine at this end. nice and healthy....ah almost forgot, i would thin some of the inner fan leaf, to help the light get to the buddlings, just 2-3 ever couple days till done.

oh man, i totally see how annoying those two are... and it looks like there are a ton of other strong shoots below!!! You have to get that one on the left boosted up to the same hieght... itll prolly end up yielding more if you get it up soon, because its canopy is much more even....
Also, the one on the left looks a bit thirsty than the one on the right?

yes high heat can cause plants to stretch.

i would bent those 2 top ones all the way over they will be ok even if the stem walls crack they will heal quick and it will alllow all the plants to get even light and more even growth . they do look good man keep it up

Me too - bend those tops right over! You can tie those down over a week easy without snapping them - or just gently break it (with support if necessary) - in a week you'll have a big strong elbow forming, and a huge set of buds growing perpendicular to the stem. Don't hesitate - do it today...:)

Thanks guys. I bent them over that night and you what? Before I left them for the night, they had already turned towards the light! This indoor growing is really cool :canabis:
Thanks again for all the replies and help,

In electrical pipe bending terms you've created an offset lol, probably a 45 degree.
