Strange guests on my pots...

Hello guys

since one week these strange white small creatures appeared on my pots.

To take pictures of them i had to use my microscope.

Anybody knows what they are? Are they dangerous for my seedlings?

Is it safe and effective to use my neem oil to get rid of them?

Thanks for your help

does it move fast: check out my thread on a similar look'n bugger. if it is the same thing it isn't a threat to anything. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=228844

your bug looks alittle fatter and rounder. but has those same antenna's. do a search for springtails on the interweb and mebbe you will find a similar bug. also, mine would jump inches at a time and liked water in the drip pan under the pot. that is where i found mine, not walking around on the plant. so in other words, i dont know WTF you got!! might be worth a stroll thru MyNameStich's sticky to take a look-see tho.....glad to help!

Looks like either soil mites or root aphids can't really tell from pics. Also look around and see if there is any red ones if so mites.

its a root aphid; i am 99% sure i had the exact same kind cleared them up using nematodes; met52; and lots of earth worm castings...

here is a picture i snapped of the ones i had last year:

here is what the flyer looked like:

just to add to the confusion these are spring tails:
the look just like the micro root aphids except they are longer; more numerous; they move a lot slower and in a much different manner. they kind of pop and hop around; the micro root aphids are fast as shit and will move really fucking quick! ive never seen the spingtails on the edge of the pot like that they always stay in the soil and runoff they dont crawl all over the pot like that one...

good luck!

I agree with everything macguyver said. I have had these insects present in my garden for almost 6 months now. They have devastated my garden since they have been around. No one seems to know exactly what they are.

I seem to have two versions of them. One is microscopic white/clear, the other is larger reddish/brownish. They hang out on, and typically in large numbers in the soil. To me they look more like a soil mite, than an aphid. But, I had never heard of a root aphid before 6-7 months ago, so my familiarity with micro root aphids is very limited.

My plants went to shit and quit drinking on two different runs. I have assembled a small arsenal and will be having one more go at them before I move. I will be going at them with met, imid, beneficial bacteria, azatrol, and compost tea.

A member by the name of Joe Fresh had a thread about the micro ones in the infirmary section. They seemed to come the conclusion of dust mites. However, unless dust mites are able to great damage to roots(rot) I had my doubts. Perhaps if this thread were in the infirmary it would get more attention.

I would treat now before it gets out of control. Avid or Floramite will kill them..

Any idea exactly what they are Hammerhead? I know they are NOT springtails. I have had springtails, and they did not damage the garden.

These pests hang out on the pots and in the soil, almost exclusively. Wish I knew exactly what they were, no one seems to be able to figure them out. I swear they came in bags of soil. Now even after lengthy fallow periods (3-6 months), they still come back.

Thank you for your time and help,

looks kinda like a wood mite to me. I get them when I use certain mulches, not really harmful but they can explode in population quickly. I ended up just removing the mulch and replacing with a fresh top dress of compost, followed by a compost tea which kept them at bay.

hopefully they are not root aphids, those are quite annoying.

from picts I can't say exactly what they are. they look like springtails in early stage to me.
what kind of damage do you notice? why do you blame on those?
take a look at this book, it was very helpful to me to identify my problem.
