Strains with higher Cannabidiol (CDB) prevents memory issues associated with Cannabis

Thought I'd add in some great scientific breakthroughs in the realm of cannabis:

The medical cannabis movement needs to be country wide, and we need to move towards full legalization ASAP; to prevent the fed from attacking the states for medical use (claiming that anything under schedule 1 has no medical value). If it was legal, they would no longer have their bull shit grounds to stand on in harassing medical patients and growers country wide.

Found a really interesting article on how strains with higher amounts of CBD - remove any memory issues associated with cannabis use. They found strains high in THC with very little to no CDB were the culprit for the memory issues and that high CD rates not only removed any short term memory issues - but also help rebuild brain networks (Neuron genesis) for diseases where brain damage or memory loss is an issue - like Alzheimer's for example. Really interesting and good info to know =]

Seriously, the Endocannabinoid (Natural cannabinoid) system in our body is one of the most interesting things - they have found out in the past 15 years that it is involved in the regulation of 70% of our body in one way or another. From regulating Leptin (Our bodies metabolism), regulating inflammation, releasing the high associated with eating chocolate (Anandamide), or most of the runner's high from working out (it used to believe it was mostly endorphins (natural opiates) but they found way more natural cannabinoids released during working out than endorphins. The natural cannabinoid system has been found to have a part in the natural regulation of hundreds of functions involving the body.

Impact of cannabidiol on the acute memory and psychotomimetic effects of smoked cannabis: naturalistic study (2010)
Full Primary Article @ http://bjp.rcpsych.org/content/197/4/285.full.pdf

Abstract Results:
Groups did not differ in the THC content of the cannabis they smoked. Unlike the marked impairment in prose recall of individuals who smoked cannabis low in cannabidiol (CBD), participants smoking cannabis high in cannabidiol (CBD) showed no memory impairment.

Conclusions (Abstract)
The antagonistic effects of cannabidiol (CBD) at the CB1 receptor are probably responsible for its profile in smoked cannabis, attenuating the memory-impairing effects of THC. In terms of harm reduction, users should be made aware of the higher risk of memory impairment associated with smoking low-cannabidiol strains of cannabis like ‘skunk’ and encouraged to use strains containing higher levels of cannabidiol.

The implications of this research are very important to the medical cannabis field. We can breed strains that do not negatively effect memory.

Crusader Rabbit,

It might be a little more gradual than that - I dunno. It may be that if you were smoking strains with CBD during a week - it would help protect against memory issues of other strains - especially if the CBD is smoked at the same time as the high THC strain.

But I could be way off - it could be an instant effect from consuming CBD as well - more research is definitely needed to find out the specifics of how to use CBD to reverse memory issues.

I know it also helps reverse alzeihmers and also allows for Neurogenesis (Creation of new brain cells) in the Hippocampus (where short and long term memories are formed) - which to my knowledge no other substance can do.

Another really helpful chart - for showing medical applications of cannabinoids:

That is a very good chart it's funny how they keep fighting everyone on how it does no good for this and that and who is it that is fighting us on this. I would have to say about the memory part you would have to break it down much like this chart and put in the right amount xyz like baking a cake. Cannabis has always been like this much like all the drugs on the market today . What works for one person doesn't work for the next and this also goes for dosages aswell. Each person has to find out what works for them and work within that strain and injestion whatever this maybe stay safe headband 707

Very interesting study. Hopefully this will lead to some positive developments within the medical marijuana field.

Just bumping this great thread out of curiosity.

Does anyone else have any anecdotal evidence on the relationship between certain strains and memory? I'm wondering if landraces are perhaps more 'pure' in this sense, or if it's strictly about CBD.

Also, I've heard that cannabis (perhaps cbd) coats the brain in a layer of fat, and therefor protects against damage from a night of drinking!

Oh and this is amazing...

do we know?

do we know?

the more we know, the more we find out we don't know. that's one of the beauty's of research. it's always something else that needs to be better understood, and researched more extensively.

next they'll be telling us that we are not alone in the universe, and actually have a way to beem us up scottie.

but until then, we'll blow our brain cells away only to revive them to be blown away again. #"that's the circle of life" in my MUFASA voice

now simba, rule all that you see, except the elephant graveyard of misconception and deceit.

It's not that it coats it with fat, our natural cannabinoid system in our body protects against damage from oxidation in the brain and has other neuro-protective qualities.

Study (2009) White matter integrity in adolescents with histories of marijuana use and binge drinking @ http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0892036209001457

Abstract Results:

"Findings are largely consistent with research suggesting less neuropathology in adolescents without histories of substance use. However, binge drinkers who also use marijuana did not show as consistent a divergence from non-users as did the binge drink-only group. Detection of white matter alterations may have implications in identifying early cognitive dysfunction in substance using adolescents."

Binge drinkers who also smoked cannabis were closer to better health like test subjects who never binge drank, than those who binge drank but didn't also smoke cannabis.

FFO this is good to hear. Especially since I am groing a Canna Tsu and it is strechy as anything, I was wondering if I should keep it, since it has basically no THC but loads of CBD. I guess I can mix it with my herb that causes the worst amnesia and see if it works. On the same trak Pyrroloquinoline quinone is the bomb, and quite inexpensive if you shop online. Check it's positive effects on memory and it causes spontaneous generation of new mitochandria in old cells.
