Strains that are not what they used to be and the ones that never changed

Idea for a thread I have. I know some genetics have been preserved by keeping same parents alive and other through breeding do the strain evolves. Others are shrouded in mystery and possible lies due to parents being lost or other reasons. I'd like to hear about what has stayed the same, what has chsnged, and how. Not looking to stir up shit or start negative rumors. Just wanna know what people actually know.

The bottom line is...the whole weed affair is topsy turvy right now, whats hot this month ain't gonna be hot this time next month, year or even decade...even northern lights from the 1998 era is highly collectible, but to who really? although it only a fraction of the thc of 2005 even 2015, ...its only its age that makes it desirable, ...not the toke?

Not the age. I like to try the strains that used to be popular as well as the grandparent strains of our current trends. I just wanna know when I pay top dollar for something it is or is not what it is supposed to be and has it improved or degraded. I know of several stories of seedbanks losing parent lines and still selling knock offs of there own work. But to me most of that is just rumors. Im hoping for actual facts. So and so has done this to such strain since it was originally released?

It is one thing to lose a parent plant, it happens (B130 DJ Short ex.). If you disclose that info all good, but to continue on like nothing changed is what gets me.

Also the rumor mill, someone pops two seeds, and can't grow to begin with, hops on the net and starts bashing, the parrots take over and next thing you know, the whole company sucks. Its a sad day when a company works for 20 years doing a great job and is roasted by a hack on the interwebs.

This is a great idea for a thread, IF we can keep it to experiences only, not rumors and bullshit.

Best vibes

We are some spoiled cronisseurs.
I tell you what! Hahaha

Vegetable breeders don't give their works out to the public. We should be lucky we even get a clue from cannabis breeders!

In the future, if we ever see fed deregulation, breeding disclosures will become private. This, order to protect the breeder(s) from being copied.

Anyway... It seems to me that long term stability in a line really depends on what plants are selected for in each generation. As long as the selection criteria remain consistent, so should the variety.

All speculation of course. ;)

There are many lines kept intact by breeders and growers alike.

Trick is to know what you want, and where to get it.

Pakistan Chitral Kush Standard, by Charlie Garcia at Cannabiogen,
is a good example of a line well worked/preserved, with two phenotypes.

When you pop these seeds, the results are predictable.

Good for making your own crosses, too.

I have been working a cross myself, with a bagseed and sensi star x nycd,
to learn about reinforcing target traits. It's very interesting.

Cuts only strains are exciting in their own right, and some are proven for S1.
