Stinkbugs

Anybody having problems with the new menace stinkbugs? And how are you dealing with them? For those that have not experienced them. You will before long. They were introduced in Pennsylvania few years ago and are already infesting crops as far away as Florida and Arkansas. They eat vegetation especially sweet crops. Can invade your home through the smallest of cracks. And they fly. The worst part is they excrete a scent that smells like someone took their shoes off for the first time in a month. If you swat or crush them they will stink up the whole room. And if they get into your bag or jar they can ruin the whole lot with their odor. Any thoughts by anybody. Thanks

We have both round ones and long ones mostly long ones. They get in the house in the fall through any crack. Had em in my garden one time bad. In the house we grab them gently with a bit of TP and immediately flush. The same in the indoor garden but with no handy toilet threw em back out the door.. Even with a few dozen in the garden, really didn't notice any particular damage.

Are these really a problem for people??? I've always had them where I live and its no big deal. I have as much problems with them as I do with grasshoppers in my grow.

but eating one while on a motorcycle on the other hand is a different story!!! :puke:

For the first time ever, I have stink bugs in my garden. At first I noticed what looked like bites taken out of some upper leaves in a few faily young vegging plants. Then, a few days later while moving plants around to water, I see the culprit in the top of one of the plants. Grabbed him and took to the swirl pool and flushed him on his way.

Thought it was a fluke, had never heard of this probelm before. Then I found another one maybe a week later. Again, into the swirl pool and away he went. Have found a couple more here and there, and always on younger vegging plants. Always one at a time, so not a major infestation. Don't think they had time to lay eggs.

Then found one last night in one of my flowering tents. I had noticed a couple days ago what looked to be a bit of the very top leaf set on a Wavy Gravy and one DSDv2 looked like one side of the leaves had been munched on. Hit em with a light neem spray as a precaution as I did not see any bugs when I inspected. Then, as I said I found the stinky bastard last night in the top of another plant. Apparently, like many bugs, they like the new tender shoots. Each time I have found them it is always on the first two sets of leaves at the top of the plant.

These are the brown mottled colored ones. Not looking to go on a major pesticide rampage, so thought I would throw up a No Pest strip for a bit to see if it gets rid of any stragglers and then pull the strip down (don't like to leave these up longer than necessary).

Anyone else have these bastards eat your plants? If so, how did you get rid of them (if you were able to)?

At least they are of a size that is faily easy to see if you are specifically looking for them, and the brown helps a bit contrasted against the green of the plant. But, when he is on the underside of a leaf (staying out of the bright light?) they can hide pretty well.

Just had one of these kill a clone I bought. Nee is supposed to work, or they can be driven away with essential oils. mine are indoors and a couple of drops of garlic oil near plants and whole house smells. These were listed - garlic, neem, thyme, lavender, basil, lemongrass, mint, rosemary, and sage.

Always pick them off and just remove them by hand. No need for any sprays because they are big enough to see and remove. I found a green one the other day I just picked it off the plant and removed it.😎

It is the eggs, and young, plus they are vector for acquiring spider and broad mites. Also in scrog tent, easy to hide.
