Hello All,

Let's get the ball rolling folks, I've issued 2 sticky threads.
Which of the past threads would YOU "the community" like to see a sticky?
I have maybe 2 or 3 I think cover some topics I think come up alot but I want to hear some of your own suggestions first.
Come on guys fire away I'm listening.:hotbounce

Peace

Hi there.

Not sure if this is the best suggestion, but I think it might be a good idea to put together a sticky or two that consolidate a lot of the information in this forum into a more easily browsed format. I've been reading here on and off for months and still feel like I can't find anything I'm looking for or spend hours trying to track down one particular tidbit or the other.

Even something like the DIY link-o-rama would be handy. List of good resource threads with a brief, concise description of the main topics.

The only problem I see with many of the existing threads is that wading through them to find the relevant information can be extremely time consuming.

Hello guys,

As for the OFC thread done and done.
I put up the Moonshine man mix thread, it's a popular thread and I think it contains some good material.

PimpSlapped makes a valid point, we'll neew some articles or threads with a more specified topic covered in depth, take the OFC for example, to the semi-experienced grower it's a fun read but for a newb it's a little daunting to riffle through the whole thing.

Let's add articles to the list of things I'd like to see put together, I've been working on 2 as of late and I'd like to hear from other active members.

If there are topics you think need their own thread and sticky post your ideas here.

Peace

hey sub
as a novice i feel the best place to start with a sticky would be a collection of soil recipes. after all without a good soil in which to grow youre going to have plenty of problems all along the way. so maybe you could cut and paste all the soil recipes so peeps can go straight to the sticky and choose which recipe they feel works best for them.

to boot i think another great sticky would be the backyard composters unite or the compost guide by 3bm. after all what would true organics be without the compost?

but hey this is just my opinion :joint:

Suby,

My two pennies...

A. Some of my favorite threads, off the top of my head:

3LB-
Guano Guide
Soil Heresy (recycling soil)
Earth Juice

Others-
Backyard composters unite! thread.
Pureblend Pro thread.

However...

B. I am anal when it comes to stickies ... it bugs me when a thread titled "little help please!" or "what went wrong?" evolves into a discussion that is actually useful, and yet it has a totally ambiguous title and you can't even tell what the thread is about without digging through it.

Therefore, my suggestion would be to post a couple of the Flintstoners' more popular and broad stickies, but then to create brand new stickies on the most common topics. Like:

Guano Discussion
Composting/Vermicomposting Discussion
Pure Blend Pro
Earth Juice
Guanos
Making Teas
Post Your Organic Soil Mix
Science Nerds' Soil Biology Discussion

That kind of thing. Let everyone else do the legwork for you, i.e. if they know of a thread from the past containing info about guano that they think belongs in a sticky, they can go cut-paste it to the Guanos Discussion sticky.

Personally, I would then like to see some fairly aggressive (not overly) "pruning" of the sticky threads... removing insults, posts that stray too far off-topic, etc. IMO, the stickies should be treated like a reference library... people being allowed to discuss quietly and respectfully, but ultimately they should be like a reference text, easy to find information, organized, concise.

Then if people want to ramble on about something or fight amongst one another, they can start a regular thread and do it there. That way the stickies retain some value to those doing "research."

By the way... thank you for taking on this responsibility. I, for one, will be hanging out here more often because of it. This is great.

Thanks Dignan,

I agree that we need to make the sticky's more concise, I've put up one of the 3LB threads in a sticky, I was wondering how you guys felt about making a stciky where all the 3LB articles are together in one thread that will be started by them (hopefully) and closed after that, something like a reference article by the 3LB?

I stckied Vman's soil composting thread, let's build on that one as far as composting issues go I believe it contains good information, someone could copy past the 3LB soil recycling article in that thread as well.

I don't threads full of flaming and insults, I've been caught dropping an insult in frustration in some threads that have heated debates, this is why I havent' and won't sticky the Chemweed vs Oraganics thread, that would be looking for trouble.

We need a thread that deals exclusively with soil recipies and another that deals exclusively with teas.

Keep the ideas coming I'm still trying to see hoe we can put this all together neatly and concisely.

Peace

Looks like you're off to a good start.

There are a lot of threads here on soil, mixes, teas, etc. Lots of them have good info. Maybe have one sticky that is a somewhat organized link listing. Direct links to threads/posts all listed in one place so that people can find things more easily/quickly.

A good 'Benniners Organics' sticky would be nice. Cover the basics of organic growing, explain the building blocks behind it all and simple methods that are easy for the new growers to make use of.

A soil mix and/or amendments thread, posting recipes with perhaps a basic description/info.. if they're from a thread, a link to that thread would be a quick way to get more specific info.

My advice is somewhat biased, being a noob still. But it seems like most of the active topics here are rather advanced and in depth. Being active, they're up on the front page more than not anyway for the moment. I think that would make it a bit easier/less frustrating for those of us new to the field to get information that's fairly accurate and easy to locate.

1. Flushing vs not flushing in organics
2. Amending soils vs feeding in water

All good suggestions, I'm working on getting the right people to start the right types of threads with the right kind of material.

You've all been very active in participating and making this forum what it is, that's why I'm so proud to be modding this forum, because it's a community and it's what organics are all about.

Keep the ideas coming, we are far from done and like people's reactions to some of the topics listed by other members.

I've already harassed theFlintstoners about making an all in one version of their articles and keep it in a READ thread, or would people prefer to be able to post and add to it later?

I think the core stickies should be kept READ, maybe have each one linked to a discussion thread (Or a couple different ones, depending on how many topics may be addressed). Then if info comes out in other threads that should be in the sticky, maybe a Mod can be notified to add that into the READ sticky as another post off the main sticky, with links to the discussion thread?

I think that would go a long way towards keeping the clutter down on the stickies. Might be a little cumbersome with discussion threads, but even then it would cut down on the number of randomly spawned threads that are around now (a little at least) and maybe help pool discussions into more focused topics.

I second that ^^^.

It shouldn't be too difficult or confusing to have a Discussion Thread for every Sticky. Just make sure it's clear in the Sticky itself that a Discussion Thread for that Sticky has already been started. Post a link to the Discussion Thread w/in the Sticky.

I'd just love to see the Stickies be nice and clean, easy to find info without reading through pages and pages of us posting "here look at my pic of a plant fed guano tea" and then a page of "dude, nice plant! what brand of guano did you use?" :)

Exactly my feelings on the matter. I love reading the discussions, but when I am trying to find some specific concrete data it can be daunting. People in the discussion can nominate posts to be moved over onto the sticky perhaps. Maybe add additional threads for discussion as the old ones become overly long, leave the old one for archival purposes but maybe lock it and just refer to it off a link in the sticky. (If it's possible to keep the archived thread from being deleted? not sure on how things work here). Just a thought.

phew its took some time but we finally got em. good job suby.

theres some good ideas in here, i think the stickys should stay as most high priority threads /info. cant have 30 stickys.

some id like to so would be a thread thats all info. split up into

-soil mixes
-tea recipes
-amendments
-other

maybe add a few in there as we go.

as for the post up a few the OFC must stay a non read thread and allow posts by anyone.

then of course an organic picture thread for all the goodies.

Ok now we're getting somewhere.

I've spoken to the 3LB and if anyone has every single one of their original articles please cut and paste together and just chunk them all together in the OFC.
It seems the Flint's have lost alot of fine writing with the great fall of OG and others...
I think we will have a new edition of all the 3LB articles in one closed READ thread, just give them a few days to ...nest lol.

I like the idea of having our own Organic Picture gallery, we now have a thread on soil composting, molasses----eventually the sumation of all 3lb articles, the OFC lounge, a soil mix page that B1 usually refers to, this is a sharing thread so feel free to post your own recepies, I'm sure B1 won't mind, it's sort of the point IMHO.

We need one with an articles on teas, I'm workin on it, I've been reviewing some of the 15 odd pages of OFC and my old posts to put something together.

I agree there should not be 30 stickies but there are just so many good topics, well pick and prune and change as we go, I just figured I can even UN sticky a thread, there are some cool percs to being mod lol.

Peace
