lost my 6 foot mom yeasterday to a stem bore beetle..

over night this happend..i woke up to see 3 bottom branches looking like someone pored gas on them..

nothing you can do about the stem bore ....only thing is to make sure you keep the area around your plant sprayed with neem or another organic product...this makes it hard for a stem bore or any other bug to want to come around ur plant...

just thought i'd share this fucked up experience with you guys...

good thing my plant was almost ready to harvest.... :fsu:

notice how the branch is dying and the other is fine?..

the beetle will bore into your stalk and start chompin.... :violin: :deadhorse

Aloha Issack, sorry to hear and see your bad luck. Never had a problem with those nasty bugs. I guess the areas i've grown in, never really had them. Is this a big problem on the islands? I've really never read much on these bugs and never really seen their destruction. Atleast they were close to cutting down. Hope your other plants are sprayed really well. There was this spray made by Garden Safe. I would use and it would keep and kill just about every bug and it was safe for food plants. Sorry to hear your bad luck.
Take care

Yes Chuckyou....this is why i posted this...just to let people know that there is such a thing and to actually look out for it...

i really dont know if there has been that much of a problem in the states ....but in Hawaii we have this beetle..

GoldDust.....hello friend..sorry i have not been in chat much...i owe you some info on the islands...

i was never aware of this beetle...when it happend i called my Guru island friend and he told me what it was.......he told me there should be a HOLE in the stem somewhere.....sure as shit....you all seen the whole..
he said back in the days they used to inject tobasco sauce in the whole...and it sometimes worked...i dont know....my plant was almosts ready so i was'nt going to burden myself with tobasco.....

bottom line is you really have to watch out and neem the area around ur plants if you are growing outdoors.....coffee orchards here have the prob sometimes...
dont worry......if you take the precautions before hand....this bug w,ill not come around...

I would take all stem material and burn it just in case of eggs...

Glad to see not to much was lost... how many grams do you thin you will pull from the plant?

Ortho systemic pesticide (orthene)
works for about25-30 daze. Kills everything.

apply no later that 40 daze before harvest. I use it all season on vegging plants and use Bug B Gone during bloom.
Orthene will kill off thick infestations in a tight spot tho!

Ive lost crops to corn borrers n cut eorms, so I feel yer pain.!
Peace, bub.
