The official 1 sqft challenge thread in the grow diaries/ micro grow section “ https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=108973 “ gave me an idea for a grow challenge. Anyone can grow quality cannabis in our present society with large energy hungry HPS lamps and prized American/Dutch seed genetics obtained over the internet but what will cannabis be like in a dystopian future or alternate history like steam punk or cyberpunk??

Cyber punk is a genre of science fiction created in the late 70’s and 80’s.

This vision of the future is almost a complete reality today. We live in a world of totalitarian police state governments, evil mega corporations like Monsanto, strange body modifications, hi tech microcomputer enhanced weapons like the South Korean S&T Daewoo K11 DAW (Dual-barrel Air-burst Weapon) and massive global poverty caused by capitalism taken to extremes.
I don’t grow so I may not be the best person for making the rules. The cyber punk challenge would be based around utilizing high tech but limited resources available living under a restrictive totalitarian government and rely more on environmental factors for cannabis potency rather than genetics and keeping the grow as stealth and hidden as possible. I have come up with some possible rules.
1 ) Dual use technology only. Any lights or grow technology designed from the ground up specifically for growing cannabis is not allowed since it would not be available under tight oppressive government control.
2 ) Because of diminishing oil supplies and increased capitalist for profit corporate privatization of resources like water and electricity the grow would have to be highly efficient with maybe recycling hydroponic or household water and led lights that isolate and only expend energy on certain wavelengths of light for growth and UVB light for potency. The government will have the ability to precisely monitor citizen’s water and energy consumption.
3) Moore’s law has shown growth of computer power outpaces the rate at wich the online internet population grows so a future totalitarian government would likely be able to have near 100% complete control of the internet so getting seeds over the net would be against the rules. Brick weed seed and bag seed only. To get around lack of good genetics, technology like the my DX analyzer and SCiO molecular sensor could be used to analyze the potency of a large group of bag seeds grown in very small containers to select a clone from the large group.
4 ) Because of human population growth and the widening gap between the rich ruling class an poor underclass grow space would be restricted. Just like in Hong Kong and other places where the poor are viewed as simply a nuance by the ruling class to be swept away and crammed into cramped planed public housing much like animals on a modern factory farm so the space of the grow would be restricted.
Maybe others that have experience growing have some new or better ideas?
