I've recently been pondering heavily on the idea of trying to engineer a 12"x12" gas-tight\odor free\waterproof box that can be opened and closed, and stuck onto the bottom of a car via maybe an industrial magnet of some sort. No trafficking going on by the way, just trying to get from point A to point B safely without the worry of the dogs. I do understand that it is impossible to eliminate the threat, but I figure if I could get my buddy, a welder, to come up with something gas tight that can be opened and closed the dogs couldn't smell it.

A couple friends have suggested waterproof boxes, ammo boxes, all of which i'm not sure completely eliminate the scent. I've also wondered about submerging the evidence in water. Say that same 12 inch box with a tupperware full of water inside, inside of that maybe a weighted down container so that everything that contains a smell is submerged in water. Can they smell through water? What can a dog smell exactly? What are some possibilities here...

hm.. I would look into how well dogs can smell. They might be able to still get a scent from somewhere, but I don't know. Submerging in water sounds like a good start.

has anyone besides me ever considered gettin a thick yankee candle type candle, slicing it in half, so there are 2 cylinders, hollowing a hole in it, putting your weed in a small glass vial that is corked , putting the corked vial with weed in the hollow space, then melting the candle back together? next just thouroughly wash the candle. would that seal out smell pretty well?

a dog will smell it in all those scenarios...if he's good.

also a compatment on your car like that is usually illegal....ask snoop dog he just got charged for a similar thing w/ his weed and coke bust.

Best bet is to LOCK it in your trunk or glove box...they cant go in there w/ out a warrent....or just leave it at home.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of spaces to put a thin foot by foot box up on the inside of a car frame. I'm not talking border patrol here, but maybe traveling across statelines from show to show at night when it's a bit more risky. I wouldn't assume most cops who maybe if they have suspicion of dread locks are going to start poking their heads underneath your frame. I think if they have suspicion they'll run the dog and if the dog doesn't smell whats under you car, he won't look there. I think you could soak the afformentioned box in bleach solution and other such things after storing everything inside of it. Some more input would be greatly appreciated!

I've heard a cedar type box makes it difficult for the dog to pickup a scent. No idea if its true or not.

On the topic..1 thing I dont quite understand is that people say that all is wasted effort if you do not wash down the sealed container,ect to get any oil scent off of it.

If that were the case wouldn't the dog hit on you yourself ...or ANY of your belongings you've made contact with after being in contact with some stanky nugs.


I also think that the majority of these drug dogs are being trained incorrectly...at least around my parts. The dogs around here seem not to hit due to the scent...but more on a command given by their handler to go nuts..hence allowing a search. They are training these dogs to bark at cars on command. It seems like total BS to me.

Yeah... point well stated, PC. I just figure, though. That theres no suspicion of trafficking large amounts of anything here. My point is, if the dog doesn't find this little box magneted to a hard-to-see area then neither will the pigs. Their concern is busting for a DUI or something like that, sure maybe they might poke around to be assholes, but they arn't going to be ripping out carseats and dashboards in this type of scenario. I thought my buddy had a good idea with an ammo case. Said they were air tight\waterproof I believe. Could just slap a magnet on the inside of the thing and latch it right up there. I don't know how true this all is and researching it online has proven to be harder than expected.

if u have/ know a friend with a grinder and a welder, you could skip the whole -paying some company to install a box- and just bend and weld up a box, use a grinder to cut a hole in the floor of your car, drop the box in and weld it up. im sure an experienced welder could do it in 3-4 hours tops

Just remember..........
No matter how well your stealth container seals & contains the odor, what will get you busted by a dog's smeller is touching the outside of it with hands that have weed smell on them.

but in your case, if a dog is called your pretty much screwed. honestly id say try putting a sealed bag in a container filled with something strong like pepper, or if this was Beverley hills cop.. you could put your drugs in coffee grounds because apparently it masks the smell. I never gambled my freedom on an Eddie Murphy movie though, so i really wouldn't know.

As indicated, you arent going to hide jack-shite from a trained dog. Best thing is to not have any reason for the dog to be there in the first place. If you have any priors for weed or any other drug possession on your record or any other drug offense then you can bet on being hasseled on future stops.

Verite is right....a good dog will find almost anything, and you've seriously fucked up somewhere along the line if you've got a dog going alongside your car (i.e. weed smell in the car, erratic driving, incoherency towards the officer, something)

yes i agree with you all. thanks for the information fr33, i actually had a copy of that video lying around here somewhere. it's just too bad things don't really work like that. if they want in your car, they'll go in. i'm going to have to remember though that "I do not consent." I've already got the politeness down and the keys always go on the dash.

I've never been searched before nor do i have a record, ::knock on wood::, i feel very lucky. Anyway, I know what you're all saying, but the topic here is a gas tight openable container. I don't need to know what you think of the situation, my proposal is the container. However, I do appreciate all of the comments and advice greatly. Keep chuggin'...

I have, but never put it into practice; never needed to. I also had the same thoughts with a wheel of cheese.

I see these words of 'wisdom' repeated over and over in these forums, but my personal experience belies it. Had such on my record since 1983, with the appended 'w/int dist' and the same in 1990. It's never been an issue, not even when I was on active probation. Perhaps it's because I have such an innocent face any cop would think I must have been framed and not bothered. No mention of it in airports either, though it may have been considered out of date by the time I started flying regularly post 9/11.

Now I'm not saying it doesn't happen. Heck, I've seen it a few times on 'Cops'. Just that it's never happened to me and therefore it's far from guaranteed. Yes, I look like your Dad nowadays (or someone's dad) but really haven't been pulled over much since that crept up on me.

It is better to be prepared, no doubt.
