Stealth Power Savings Question

Just wondering, not sure if there is an actual thing like this or not.
But
Is there something like a battery, that you could charge in the day, while your plants are asleep, then unplug at night, then use it to power your lights at 50% at night? so theres a constant medium power pull all the time, rather then 12 hours no pull, then 12 hours massive pull.

Would be great to take it to work/mums/friends/family etc..

Very costly at first, have you thought of solar? Having solar wired in with batteries is one green energy source. Also there are wind generators but those have regulations regarding distance to neighbors. Wind power makes noise that some people bitch and moan about.

It'd be cheaper/easier to run 2 rooms on flip schedule so it looked like the power was being used evenly 24 hours a day

A battery array that could output 2 kw steady for 12 hours would not be cheap and the actual draw will be half of rated (same as LEDs) when used in the real world.
The charging rate would have to be in the kilowatt range also to accomplish the same power draw as half the lighting system total. That is one HUGE load of charging power, most batteries require a slower rate, electric cars wish they could recharge that fast.

And finally there is the loss from putting the power into the battery and taking it back out. Expect about a third or more power to be lost in the transfer, mostly as heat in the battery itself and the rest in the charger.

Just itemizing why the flip flop circuit is the easiest way to accomplish a consistent power drain without the 'garden' spike.

coldcanna was first, MrBungle was second, and I come in third.
Is a vote being taken?
