Stealth closet sketchup plan, check it out!

At first you see an innocent looking closet shelf setup.
Picture it full of clothes.

But what's this? a sliding back panel!

And behind it is a 400w stealth grow cab that exhausts into the attic behind. I like that the fan and air pump are separate from the general public by two walls, one of which will be full of clothes to further dampen sound.

I'm particularly proud of the intake setup, this pulls room temperature air from the bedroom, hopefully without letting any light out.

Like Dennis Leary said "Smoking pot doesn't lead to harder drugs....it leads to carpentry."

I'd been trying to figure out a way to hide a grow with some kind of false wall, this is what I came up with when inspiration finally struck. I like this design because it can be adapted to any closet with dead space behind it or above it, you could even exhaust to a crawlspace if you had to.

I'm gather the materials to make this vision a reality, the exhaust and light are already ordered. I don't know If I will post pics when I'm done because a false wall doesn't do much good when you publish pictures of the outside on the internet.

Any thoughts?

Looking good Tony!!
Hope you can get this built.

One thing I might add would be some kind of kickplate in front of those holes with enough room under it to let all your air in, but low enough that nobody is ever going to see those intake holes.

I will definetly add a toekick or some sleepers to support the whole setup and help to hide the intakes, which should be pretty tough to detect anyway as they are two feet back from the cab face and only 4" off the ground, I don't think you could see them without putting your head on the floor.

Very cool design!

As for thoughts, here's mine, though I suspect you've considered these things and just not discussed them in your post...

So, I would put an air filter of some kind in the duct run prior to the carbon-filter so that dust doesn't get into the carbon area and reduce the lifespan or effectiveness. You could likely cut the outside cover into duct size pieces and replace them every so often, as it won't be needed on the outside if you're pushing air through it.

About the reservoir being in the attic area.. Is the temperature somewhat stable in there? If the water gets too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter it could lead to problems. Perhaps you could use a water chiller in the summer and a water heater in the winter to maintain control even if there is a moderate temperature swing.

If light leaks from the intake in the front, an extreme solution is to make a 2nd floor/shelf in the growing area, raised up a foot or so, with a small fan blowing the intake air up through a curved duct. I did this to prevent light from leaking out from under the door when I ran 400 watts in a closet. You’ll lose some vertical space, and it’s kind of ridiculous, but if that’s what it takes to achieve the level of stealth you want, then so be it.

Anyways, there's my :2cents:

Good luck getting that setup built out - looks like it will be real clean and effective.

That's an excellent point about the pre-filter, I totally still have that thing wrapped uselessly around the outside of my filter right now, and It does seem to be losing it's effectiveness a little prematurely.

My rez should be ok in there as I'm running coco drain to waste rather than conventional hydro, it's the same attic I keep my rez in now and it gave me no problems this summer, and my chimney runs through the attic near there so It shouldn't get too cold this winter.

I use the black Web Carbon filter material on all my intakes to stop light leaks and prevent pests, pollen and dust from getting to my girls.

thanks for the thoughts.

You should consider pulling through the filter instead of pushing into it.

I've heard they are quite a bit more effective that way.

Good looking design. Good luck in your travels!
