Starting up a new room- Need input

Hello

I don't post much, but I just got a chance to set up a new grow room, and I need help from all you grow room gurus.

What I have is a 6'x10'x corner room on the 2'nt floor. one window looking out at the house next door, and a door that gose out to a roof/patio also looking right at someones house. I also have a 400w HPS that is not being used ATM.

I wanted to just buy another 1000w light and a good blower, but I have no place to blow hot air. I would just use a hole saw on the ceiling, but it is an old house, and the ceilings are plaster. Also it's not a rental, so no opption of drilling first and asking questions latter. :sasmokin:

I was thinking of building a 6'x3'x6' box and running a 600w, and my 400w in it, but I thought I would get some oppinions before I went out and bought $100 worth of wood. Not to mention the light and blower.

would the box idea solve the heat/venting problem? Or would it just be the same problems?

My idea was to hang my two light in there and vent out the top or back with a 265 cfm blower, and have two large passive intakes on ether side. The thing is the hot air still has no ware to go after it is vented out of the box.

Any body have any ideas that might help me out.

Box ideas, room ideas, venting ideas. all are welcome.

thanks: MO

I remember a guy from OG had some really nice looking grow cabs, I think his name was 1000watteye or something in referance to the "eye" brand of high spectrum lights.
Or maybe it was IandI.......I don't remember........I miss my OG friends.......... :(

Any one remember any thing like that?

It's not going to work unless you either remove the heat from the room....whether it be by venting it out or by using an AC. If you need to vent out the window, just build plenum box over the inside of the window and leave the window open. it won't let any light escape and will be able to remove the hot air. Have you thought about just using a window unit AC? If you go with the cab, you could duct the AC into it if needed...

You're thinking of Hortilux Eye bulbs ManicOrganic

Thanks for the reply sandman.

I don't think an AC unit running in the middle of Dec. is going to work very well. I don't plan to bring in clones untill mid Sep. by then it will be past AC season. I guess I could run the AC right inside the grow cab, or run a ventless unit in the room, but those are not cheap.

I was hopping that the winter temps in my area (northern united states)
and the fact that no heat gose to the room (beside what the lights put out)
would compensate for the heat the lights put out. Fress air is still an issue though.

The plenum is a good idea, but how do you make it so dose not look like you have a big sheet metal box screwed on to the inside of your window. Like I said the window is looking directly at the window of the house next door. Also I think that in the winter time when it is below freezing that venting 100 deg. air out would cause alot of steam like venting a dryer in the winter.

As for the eye thing I was trying to remember the user name of an old overgrow member that did a how-to of a very nice grow cabs.

Thanks: MO

Have you considered splitting the room in half. That way you could reflect more of the light around and just vent the hot air out of that part of the room. THat seems plausible to me. Another idea would be to use a HydroHut. They are completely self contained and have holes for exhuast and carbon scrubbers. Best of luck

Just install some mini-blinds over the window and then put the plenum on...no light will get through if you take some very minor lightproofing precautions (like painting the inside of the ducting and plenum black), so it'll just look like a window with no light on in the room. Crack the window about 3-4" and you've just setup your exhaust.

Dunno what your ambient temps are in the room, but you might be able to pull it off without ducting the heat out the window in winter...could even use a duct to move the heat from the lights to your living areas to help lower the heating bill.
