starting outdoors!

Yeah, I know, its a bit late. But according to my calenders, ill have till mid-september in my area before 12 hours of night time. that gives me a good month to get some seedlings out, prepare an array of plots, and do it to it!

Im gonna find a few areas, and have a few plants (1 or 2) in a given area, probably seperated by strain. also less noticable. theyll probably have about a month in veg before they start to flower. But I want to make this as close to a guerilla grow as possible, to reduce risk of being seen or having my patches tracked. So im thinking about ammending the soil with shultze moisture control, the stuff with the water crystals, and probably worm castings.

Any suggestions y'all might have would rock. I plan on growing a few sativas, skunk and a few indica as well. This is my guess at amount.

2 Papaya
2 Hawaii x Maui Wowie
3 arjans haze x kali mist (MOD)
3 White Skunk.

Sound like a plan?

Definitely sounds like a plan. Make sure you give 'em a good indoor start first though. you can get cheap water crystals on e-bay....i like to use kelp, too...works wonders indoors or out.

Okay so here are a few questions.

1) Do those water crystals actually last long enough to do the plants any good?
2) are there any other ways to ensure a plants survival?
3) Im worried about pests. I cant put up a fence. What are some natural defenses?
4) When I till, ill only be able to carry a hand spade to dig. How much do I need to work the soil where its dry and arid?
5) Most importanly, is it as difficult as ive heard? This will be my first time outdoors, and i dont want to just wantonly kill plants. And ive heard its difficult to keep plants alive outdoors in guerilla plots.

Do you have any animals in your area? Some growers like to put fences around their plants to keep animals way. Since you can't, you can take a piss around (but not ON or in the soil they're growing in) your plants and use something called Liquid Fence. Google it.

1. Personally I *NEVER* use water crystals. Some people say it's poisonous. I don't like to take chances with that shit. I get a hell of a lot of rain in my area, cept for in the Fall. Carrying water is good exercise! :)

2. Yeah..to ensure their survival, don't make trails, tell anyone, grow too close to people or put too many in one spot.

3. Try Neem Oil for insects. DON'T spray it on bugs. Some people use dilute tobacco/garlic/chili juice to keep them off. I don't like to use chemicals myself.

4. How much you need to work the soil is gonna depend on the soil in your area. What latitude are you around? Or tell us a city close to you (but definitely not the city you're in)...

5. It can be a challenge. If you're gonna need to water, it's best you stick your plants near a water source...how many are you planning to grow? The more you grow, the more water you need to carry. You can also set up a drip irrigation system if you really wanna go all out. :)

Hi!

The first time I have use the cristals I put too much of them in my soil mix and when I came back my plants were not in the the ground anymore. This stuff expands like 400X it's size so don't put too much. In the other hand if you use them correctly it's one of the best ways to keep water in your soil especially if you can't go to your outdoor plantation every weeks.

Peace! :joint:

glock: thanks for all your assistance! Maybe i could actually cut up a non-toxic sponge and put it in the ground under the roots. I just dont want to have to go to my sites every week. Theres a big difference in watering my indoor babies and roughing it to water all my outdoors. Im planning to have about 10 plants all told. ill probably wind up with 5 females. Im near to Oklahoma city. Land of dirt and dryness. haha.

LeGrow: You personally use it with good results?

1. they work really good, there's a good kind and a bad kind, what i do is get them wet before you add to your soil so you already know how big they are gonna get...here's the best on the market imo and more info www.watersorb.com

2. get them as strong and as healthy as possible before going outdoors.

3. neem works great for insects, so does organic alot of organic mixes you can make, for deer you can use soap, dog hair, dog poop, ect...you shouldn't have too much of a problems since your starting late, they normally only eat your stuff when there isn't much else around.

4. you can get a foldable shovel from target or walmart for about $10-$12, they work great and can fit almost anywhere. at the very least dig a 1x1x1 ft hole, more is better though if possible.

5. it's simple to grow outdoors but it's hard work, the more you put in the more you'll get back, just make sure you get them some water, nutes, and sun...don't let them get overgrown by other plants. they'll basically do the rest on their own.

good luck

I am not a negative person but I don't think this will work well. :badday: You plant early in spring to get root growth deep in the soil before hot weather comes. If you plant now in hot weather, the plants would be just like in a pot and require constant attention with water.

Most plants will flower before 12 hours i think? On the east cost ontario its august 20ish.

If you're gonna use those crystals, get em wet and expanded BEFORE adding them to the soil :)

Hi there,
Some nice strains you've started for yourself,

I too have started very late in the season due to circumstances beyond my control. I currently have 3 HashPlant babies which are only 2wks old.

Being used to indoor hydro I was/am a bit concerned asto what, if anything, I'll hopefully harvest. They're normally producing pairs of leaves by now :chin:

September'ish~early October (on a good year) is pretty much my timescale aswell so this is gonna be interesting.

Thought about grabbing a pack of some kind of Ruderalis hybrid just to make up the numbers too but haven't done so yet.

Best of luck with your grow man & hope they give you some nice phat bud :joint:

Regards, Esskie.

PS: As a deterrent to rabbits, deer etc which love fresh young growing shoots!, dog-hair either scattered about around the plot or placed into a net or a pair of old tights (if the missus doesn't suspect you of cross-dressing :Bolt: ) works well. Old dog hair stinks when it gets wet too so it doesn't get washed off/away like some other deterrents.

glock23 - If you use dog hair, make sure it isn't from a dog you can be connected to!

Good Point Glock!, that would be a real bummer!. I haven't had a dog personally for several years but a relative has a large, long-haired German Shepard who 'yields' large amounts of long hair if it's been a while since the last brush. Or even when they molt when the summer coat is coming in ya know?. Btw, I didn't notice you'd already mentioned dog-hair when I posted, sorry man.

BagseedSamurai - Esskie: Maybe we should log our grows together! Ill be starting mine up within a week or so.

Yeah cool, I know I'll definately be keeping an eye on your thread as our timing seems to be very close!. There's a link to my thread in my last post or click here

Can I ask if you had/have yours under a light whilst indoors?, unfortunately due to the wrong type of visitors! at the end of last year I don't have my system or veg system & cloner anymore, right down to my meters :badday: , so mine have only had sunlight. Even when they were indoors they were at a window.
I'm really noticing a big difference in the growth rate tween soil/sunlight & hydro sys/veg lighting though.

Wish I'd started more tbh but I can see some type of ruderalis hybrid being started just for extra stash. Never smoked it, I've heard mixed reports on the various strains available now though?, some good some bad so?...

Regards, Esskie.

Hows your youngsters comin on BagseedSamurai?,

I'm afraid I had a run-in with a caterpillar lol!, but they're lookin okay. I just posted another couple o pics just now but I usually wait with my grow pics until there is something worth taking a picture of.

If the insect problem persists I'll try making up some garlic spray & see how it goes?, failing that some Neem or hot pepper.

Regards, Esskie.
