Starting indoors, transplanting outdoors

A friend of mine started a plant indoors last year on a 20/4 regimen and then transplanted outdoors when it was around 15" or so. I have been growing this same strain outdoors for several years now and have never seen this strain get as big as this plant did. It kind of got me thinking I should start mine indoors as well. It seems like a risky venture because if it fails I lose all my shit and have to wait to next year to try again. Any of you guys ever tried this? Pro's and cons?

Also, I usually build a 3x3 greenhouse and start my plants outdoors from seedling to around 12" before I transplant. This works well for me but I still have to deal with bugs, and the neighborhood cats climbing on the greenhouse now and then. It seems like starting indoors may be easier but I'm worried about how the plants will do when I put them outdoors in a different environment. One website I looked at recommended that you turn your lights to 12/12 around a week before you put them outside.

Id do both, put out some clones that u started indoors and some from you're greenhouse.
Or start em indoors, clone em up and put em in the greenhouse too harden off and get use too being outdoors before putting em out in the open.... Id talk too you're buddy too since he had such good luck with the same strain and you guys are probably growing in the same climate...Good Luck

All this guy did was take it from right under the light to the direct sunlight. No acclimization or anything. That thing was a monster. I was mainly concerned about the sun being more intense and what the worst case scenario shit is. I don't want to burn em.

This is absalutely the best way to grow IMHO.
There is MANY advantages. One thing that does matter when it comes to the sun,is it the spring sun or summer sun.Morning sun or evening sun.IMO the evening spring sun with the moon just reaching its first quarter {waxing} is the best.I get 5>>>FIVE outdoor crops a year using this method.2 spring crops 1 annual {seasonal} and 2 fall crops.I use a 1000 watt MH for mothers.I use well over 1000 watts floros for cuts. The greatest thing is that they are only outside for about 60 days.
However, with this method it is STRICKLY 24/7 lighting. With what you are talking about with the plant to continue to grow in veg cycle you will want to keep your light on the daylight hours of when you intend to put plant out.You can find this out by getting a farmers almanac for y/area.In most cases the plant if put in direct sun from indoors will wilt and look like shit, but will come around and perk up the next day.
Good luck..

I have not done it alot myself, but another friend does it this way all the time, some time's good result's, other time's bad, but he is a person that grow's by his short's and not his brain. Listen to those that do it with success, what they do is the reason why it work's so well.

I hope to some day try your method wolfshadow, I am sure one will find strains that do better at this than other's.

Happy Holiday's

grow safe.

You would be surprised RH;)
In most cases I find that any strain does good with this method. Its all in the timing and there is so many advantages.#1 Being that the plants always stay small Under 3 feet and are easy to blend and hide.#2 Pest, insects, thieves LEO only have a 60 day period to find them. And if they should fall to any # of things,I ALWAYS have atleast 72 more ready to go under 3 40 wtt shoplights.
I have yet to see a MJ plant take a turn for the worst once its put outside,of ANY strain. In fact I throw sickly looking plants outside and in one week generaly they are perked up and raring to go.

Happy holidaze yall

Wolfshadow you must be the luckiest guy on this planet or have a magic forcefield around you're plants. I agree with everything else you said until this part. :biglaugh:

Ok, so if LEO or rippers aren't a concern, if I put out my plants and they still have 4 1/2 mos they can grow before harvest, they will still continue to grow the entire time, correct? I want the heaviest plants I can grow. I was also wondering, on average, what percent of your plants actually make it to harvest??

Well now,Iffing ya want GIANTS

You will need to keep your light hours in sync with the daylight hours of the month you put them out. This could be crucial if ya want monsters. If y/plants are on 24/7 lighting and when you put them out they could very well start to flower.

How I get the bigger plants,I wait until june and put my clones out on the INCREASE
of the moon during summer solstice. This way here they have one HELL of a growth spurt before they flower..

I harvest 100% in most cases.Humidty, and bud rot and worms is my main concern. But I try to hit EACH end of the season to prevent this.
Good luck..

By worms I'm assuming you mean caterpillars?? I had a prob. with them last year. These bored into my stems and caused all of my leaves to get big spots in them and wilt. It decimated the majority of my plants. I was told Dipel is what I need to keep them at bay. Last year would have been my best grow yet had it not been for the pillars. I lost 7 or 8 big sativa females, harvested only three.

By worms I mean>>>>All of them..Several kinds of worms eat MJ. Also catepillar are included. The worms, catepillar, moth, butterfly also CRAP in my buds and w/morning dew
wetting the FRESH turds it runs DOWN into the bud and with the heating MORNING sun tends to create>>ROT. Now most ppl dont have ALL the critters/pest I have; but NO matter what I treat treat them with, the best thing I found that works is A goood shaking and close inspection for Turds, worms ect..
Merry X-mas..
