Hey everybody, it's good to finally be posting, the activation queue is enormous Well anyways, I've been lurking aroun this site for a good 2 weeks straight almost half the day each day, I used to lurk on overgrow 24/7 but then they shut down :

In the very near future I will start my first grow. I have plenty of ideas about what pots ferts and soil to use from reading all of your guys articles and diaries, but I was wondering if you guys had any basic list of items a first time grower should use. I wanna keep it simple because it's my first grow and my budget.

Any suggestions or comments (good or bad) would be gnarly haha.

with a first grow that you dont want to leave a dent in your wallet i would go with a couple CFLs for lights and some bagseed.

Well I do intend to spend a good amount of money, I am going to buy good seeds and spend a decent amount on ferts soil nutes n such. I just don't wanna go with top of the line everything you know?

Start seeds in small party cups with plain seed starting mix. you can buy it a home depot and it wont burn the seedlings. then...
Veg. mix
Part size measured in 5 gal bucket
1 bag Fox Farm Ocean Forest =2 parts
1 part big and chunkey perlite
1 part peat
1/3 part worm castings
Mix altogether and add Maxi-crop Liquid seaweed, Liquid Karma and Blackstrap molasses
let stand for 2+ weeks (this activates the micr-organisms in the soil to prepare it for transplant.)

Per container in 2 gal. size add at transplant from cups (seedlings)

2 tbs blood meal or N guane
1tbs bone meal or P guano
2 tbs dolomite lime
you can add other ingredents if you wish but this is a basic mix that will get you started.

Seeds. depends on what you like
Nirvana has some cheaper seeds that are fine. 15.00 for 10 seeds.
Ak-48 grows fast and big and flowers quick
Papya about the same but sweeter
Any good old Afghan grows good (Sensi has one for 55.00 that is very good)

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks a lot man that sounds like a great starter mix! And yea I think i'm gonna look at some full sativa's or ak-48/nirvana seeds. Thanks for the recipe's, I need to get started asap

Edit: Can I find all those ingredients at my local home depot or should i order through a certain site or anything like that?

What you'll need for a simple start:

-a space to grow
-containers: small party cups work well, or other small containers that you find on the market
-soil mix: (you have detailed info in the post above)
-lights: cfl's would work great
-ventilation... some new or old computers case fan conected to DC 12V.
-seeds (some easy to grow and not too expensive ones, I do not recomend bag seeds, you need a stabilized stain)


you will later need some fertilizers, but is easier for you and safer for the plants to use half the concentration recomended on the package or to not use fertilizers during first grow.

Growing inside for the first time I would probably go the opposite route and grow a full indica rather than sativa,its easier and much quicker normally

It's very easy to grow a indica or a mostly indica hibrid using cfl light, but if you are thinking of sativas, you should use HID lamps.

Thanks for the extra tips Exploziv, and Skeletor you're right about using indica first, I just like full sativa's because they give you more of an alert-cerebral high, but that all depends on the variety of strains of course. But perhaps I should start with indica, because it doesn't tend to get as tall as sativa, making it a more ideal type to grow in my confined space (we're trying to get a bigger space but we figured we didn't need much for our first grow). Thanks for the pics of your first grow gantz, it does look pretty easy hehe.

Where can I find foxfarm products and all other nutes n ferts?

Local hysro shop out of the phone book. Home Depot will carry the pots but you can go to a local nursery and get them at a reduced price if its off season. Mushroom compost, Peat, Alaska Fish Fert., at Lowes. Perlite(small), Blood and Bone meal, Dolomite lime at either one. Wormcastings, guano,Fox Farm OF and Big chunkey perlite at hydro shop. Home Depot is cheaper on the lights, I started with a 70 watt HPS from there. No pics because back the the only safe way to take pics was with a polaroid camera.I nailed a 2x4 in the closet and bolted the light to it. Either one will carry the fans and exhaust fans. Wally world is another good place to look for cheaper items also. Black Domina is very easy to grow and it is a potent indica. Was my first and it is
a couchlocker for sure.

Something available just about anywhere and is great for vegging erb plants is 5-1-1 fish emulsion,I use it in conjunction with FF grow big.Its cheap and easy to find and very effective

already alot of good info given.. heres a tip tho: go easy on them ferts.

if you are going to use foxfarm + soil additives, you wont need much ferts each watering.. it'd prolly be best to fert every other watering. and of course flush the soil the last couple weeks of flower.

hey weedman i think you made the right choise to grow ya own .....!
i starteds 2 months ago with my first grow ...knew sh*t about growing.....im completing it now just 1 more week....harvest time..im not saying its easy the first time ..but o so rewardfull
im no expert in giving peeps advice but i did not see a ph meter on these above....ITS A MUST HAVE.....your lost without 1.....
and second ...dont try to mutch diffrent fertz ....untill you know the lifecycles of you plant...then it wil be easyer to estemate what your plant needs and wants
ohw and read read read.....
