Started in beer cups when should I transfer?

Well a few of these little things been in light for right under 2 days. Some only a day and others even less. Just gave the oldest ones about a shot or so of water. Added a 5th 23watt to the veg room to speed it up.

Anyway I'm thinking i should give em all about 5 days before I transplant. I figure i want them to get bigger roots, and i dunno how long that should take but I feel another 2 or 3 days. I have 1/2 gallon grow bags to put these into. Then 3 gallon when i want to flower. My other room has a 400watt HPS I was told to wait 3-4weeks before I put the little ones other this.

So should I transplant these into 1/2 gallon grow bags or do I have a few more days to go?

these are the 2 oldest ones.

shot of all them from this morning.

When I started seeds out in beer cups they always seemed to want to be transplanted at around 14 days. Some sooner, some later.

I always like to start out seeds in 1 gallons if I got the room.

Heres a pic to give ya an idea how big they can get in cups like that. Don't always go by size though once you see a lot of roots comin out the bottom of the cup you should transplant. Do the transplant when the soil is dry also then water after its in new container.

first thing i would do is cut a few (A) slots in the bottom edge of the cups before the little ones drown. i would use the opaq white cups instead next time, reason then you can see when the roots hit the bottom of the cup and thats when you should trainsfer them to bigger pots.

i had a pic of the cups i use and how its cut but cant find it, if you need it i can take another one for ya. i cut the cups in an up side down V or in an A shape starting at the bottom edge of the cup.

i cut 3 triangles in the bottom of each cup.

so far ive been sticking my finger in the bottom and if i push it and a little bit of moisture is their i leave it. if i push it but no water is left on my finger i give it about a 1/2shot to a shots worth of water.

10-14 days when ya water water untill it just starts to drain out bottom, move to next plant when all is watered and drained lift. this is the plants approx wet watered weight every day lift you'll feel it get lighter when its light n dry water again. personally i wouldnt stick fingers into bottom of container for moisture check the lift method allow ya to visualize the moisture level in the container.

ok heres the pic's they arent the best but they are good enough to get you the picture.

i think its better to use 16oz cups, the shorter ones not the tall ones. the shorter ones should be the same size at the bottom as they are at the top or real close

always take 1-3 extra cuttings to make sure you get enough that root to fit your needs.

always change the water every other day with freash distilled water, make sure the distilled water has ) salt in it. a good place to try an get it is wally mart.

the ph of that water is around 6.3 on the distilled water up here, also here is a meter to ck your run off or the ph of other things.
http://www.sunstoneherbals.com/digital_ph_tester_hanna_checker1_-pools_spas_water_well.htm

if you get a ph meter make sure you get a packet of the 4.0 buffer, it comes with 7.1 buffer. these are to re-set the meter. its real simple just read instructions.

hope this helps

I use the type of cups that zigg is talking about, however I cover the sides with electrical tape so light can't penetrate and get to the roots. This way I allow myself the ability to lift the cup and see the roots, when they start to crowd the bottom its time to transplant. Also the water by heft is great advise. Follow that and you'll never have over/under watering problems.

breezy420 whats your thoughts on light hitting the roots. i think if the plants in opaq cups was under a 400w or more light i think it would be hard on the plants but under flos the light wont bother the roots.

im not knocking how you do it, just woundering if their was new info out here that stated it would hurt the roots and i missed it as normal lol

but to be honest there is no one best way to clone, unless your into production. i feel what ever way you do it that fits you, is all good.

in the summer time i use the glass, it seems to get the cuttings to root faster when i set it in a window with filtered light.

well i am a big fan of the beer cups....i usually leave my ladies in there till they show me sex then i transplant. its a bit more stress on em...but no biggie.

i got a question
i am running an experiment this grow...i am going to flower a cutting in a 16oz cup to see what kind of yield i can get off it. i have always been curious and have never seen it done. i know that since there wont be much room for root growth that the yeild wont be huge...but if i could throw in a couple cups with some different cuts in em...get more variety w/ the harvest.

should be a fun experiment.
any thoughts???

4-6" square pots is the bare minimum in SOG to finish properly. You will probably be disappointed.

ok well i am not doing a SOG. so i have no need for it to finish properly.

i was just asking if anyone had experience flowering cuttings in beer cups.
im not lookin to pull serious weight.

they will take up very littkle space in the cab too...i cant wait
