stacking 600 and 1000w in a vert setup

Hey guys!
So I love this site, it helped me with my first few grows.

Now after a year off and doing tons of reading on bare bulb vert growing I'm fascinated by the concept.

Ok so my question,

I just picked up a 1kw ballast and I already have .6kw ballast/bulb etc.

I am wanting to stack my bulbs, does the .6kw go on the bottom and the 1kw on top? or the other way around?

Also should I mix spectrum, like run MH in one and HPS in the other? both ballasts run MH and HPS

thanks!

I would put the 600 on the bottom with the base of the bulb in the down position. Put the 1000 on top with the base in the up position. You will then be shining the light that is from the tip of the bulb back into the plants and not at the floor or ceiling. You will also be putting the best light at the top where your best buds are generally at.

I have never run mixed spectrum so you are on your own there.

Thanks man that's along the lines of what I was thinking.
I may just end up vegging under the 600 with a MH . I still kept my hoods in case I want to run some indicas . so I am trying to figure out if I want to veg under a hood, or just go entirely vert for veg and flower.
I'm gonna be using GH flora/micro for nutes at 6/9 ml /g as per rez the recipe and the h3ad goes coco thread. I have used this recipe before and it's so simple it's ridiculous.
I will be adding kool bloom silica blast and liquid karma this go around.

last run I did 3 cherry slyder clones from a friend and a bagseed plant.
I only vegged for three weeks and only got ~12 zips under a 600w hps .
yields weren't great and neither was the smoke because I chopped early.
I figured out a few of my mistakes since then, a few include

-no ph pen so I didn't know my exact ph because I can't tell with the tester solution stuff.

-my 450 cfm fan was sucking air out of my 3'x3'x6' grobox at full blast, giving me way too much air exchange and stressing the plants.

- used the GH "coffee ground" texture coco which had terrible drainage and I over watered so the roots weren't a giant mass, they were kinda pathetic compared to what I've seen on this site.

-no carbon filter so I had to chop early because you could smell it in the driveway without getting out of the car

-No dehuey to combat the high rh in flower

-no top layer of perlite to keep out fungus gnats

-over dried buds because I lost 1/3 harvey to mold, first time I've lost any bud I've grown to mold. I put a fan on em full blast and it erased the smell and taste.

-had one side of my box open and not reflecting light back.

That's all I can think of . it was my 4th indoor grow and I learn something new every time.

This time I'll be running white Russian, frisian dew, and purple star.

I got the beans on another forum for a trade.

I want to get SSSDH seeds and a few others but I need to do a run with these beans before I can buy any.

I'm in between houses right now, lease is almost up so I have nothing going atm .

I got a ph pen, a dehuey , and a carbon filter, and tons of chunky coco to mix with fine ground coco . now I just need a fan controller.

Oh I'll also be using either calmag or epsom salts.

The only learning curve
This time should be switching to vert . I am so excited, been saving up equipment and acquiring more for so long, gonna feel real good getting my feet wet again :)

Ditch the perlite and use NAPA 8822 floor dry. Use a inch or two on the top and mix it like you would perlite into your coco.

If you put it on the top it will help with the fungus nats. It will also let you know how much to water. It turns tan when damp and is bone white when dry. This will tell you if you are over watering because it will still be tan when you water the next time. Just back off a little the next watering. If it is white you can give it a little more water to see to see if it is tan the next day. Also I get better root development in that top two inchs of NAPA than in the coco.

The floor dry does not float like perlite does when you mix it in. So when you water it stays in the coco to add airation. It also will not blow around if a fan is near by or if you knock some out of the pot by mistake.

Some people don't like to spray with eagle twenty but that will kill almost all of your mold issues if sprayed in the first week of flower. Another thing to keep in mind is fan leaf plucking. If you do this with a dense bud you may get mold. Some of my strains will hold onto the last piece of stem in the bud and then will mold. My advice is to make sure you get it all the way back to the stem so that piece is not there to get moldy. Or better yet don't pluck the fans on your big buds till the last week t week and a half.

Best of luck.

Hm I will have to check out the napa stuff. I've never used or heard of eagle twenty either I'll look that up as well.

Okay so I'm looking at tents and I am about to go buy the secret jardin dark room pro ii dr150 (5x5x6.5) For thirty dollars more I can get 8x8x6.5 same series.
Now I'm just planning on using my 600 for veg in a separate area, and runnin the 1kw vertically in the tent.

Which tent should I go with? I will be going bare bulb, but I think with a Honeywell blowing up on the bulb and my extractor fan up top, heat won't be an issue in the 5x5 tent. I Think the smaller will also outperform because there is more intense light being reflected.

Another question which is elementary and I can figure out when it gets there but I might as well ask. When I hang my bulb, how do I get it to stay totally vertical? With the cord coming off the lamp holder it wants to hang at an angle.

Ok so I picked up a sunhut xl 4x4

I popped 10 white Russian beans
10 white Russian x frisian dew
and 10 white Russian x sweet purple
as well as two bagseeds .

I'm gonna only run the strongest plants from the 30 beans I know the genetics of.
I am having an issue with heat in my tent. My plants are all 2-3 says old in straight coco in small size solo cups under 70w daylight floros they have not been exposed to my tent testing yet.

I am having trouble keeping the 600 cool with my vent fan (400 cfm dialed down on dimmer ) and a box fan blowing up at it.
I decided I'm gonna run the 600 vert and the 1000 horizontal. if I can't manage that heat I will just run the 1000 vertical, and if that's too hot than just the 600 vert .

what fan should I get to blow the heat off the lamps? I can get Honeywell for 30 or a blower fan for 40.

I've already dropped $800 Getting this all set up even with already having equipment. so if the $30 Honeywell will work that would be great.

right now my vent fan blows all the heat into another room so it doesn't heat up the room the tent is in.

oh I got a free sample box with the full H&G line to try from my local hydro shop.

I'll be using that on half and the 6/9 recipe on the other half. I'm gonna add koolbloom powder, floralicious plus and liquid karma to the 6/9 recipe.

please help me with the heat problem, these beans are already growing!

I just use a small fan under I believe it's a 12 inch I use a 4inch inline to bring cool air into the room

Ok I ended up getting this bad boy to cool the lamp from below.

it works great and the tent goes to 86 max w the 1000w running. That's with my house thermostat set to 80 so I'm sure dialed to 72-73 will keep the tent 80 tops.

I'm thinking 1600 will be too much for the small tent, as In I don't know if I can efficiently cool all that.

so I'm just going to run the 600 vert for veg then switch to 1kw for flower.

a few of the seedlings have burnt tips! Only 4, but that's 4/21 total which is almost a fifth of the plants!
I don't believe it is the nute mix I went super light like 1.5 ml micro 2 ml bloom per gallon, and followed h&g feed chart for the h&g half.
These beans are fairly old 2011 and weren't kept in the best conditions.

either way I have 10 really healthy looking seedlings that already have a faint grapefruit smell when the leaves are rubbed.
I'll be getting pics up when stuff gets exciting, where should I post the grow log?

Better late than never. Eagle 20 is easy cheesey. About 2 ml a gallon late veg or early flower before buds set. Smells like kerosene nasty fuel, so vent and don't reenter for a while. I use a respirator with that stuff.

Its active ingredient is myclobutinol and u can buy a version in the box stores made by spectracide. But imo its one of those products that works better if u use the concentrated eagle 20 instead.

Yeah and I should add always read the instructions and follow all safety precautions and were all ppe applicable. and I always make a spray plan that includes turning off fans etc., and not having to reenter till safe.

Keep reading because there are other ways to handle mold. You need to know more than one way to treat things. The thread talks of other ways both organic and not organic. Take what is offered both ways and read as much as you can.

Just beware because there can be bogus info and you will not know till you research it yourselve for sure. Don't poison yourself because you didn't do enough research.
