Stabilized strain, different phenotypes

Hello everyone!

I'm a CBD medicinal patient and I bought some seeds of Saga strain (Superstrains; 20:1 CBD/THC ratio).
However, the plants are showing a totally different phenotypes (images attached).
My intention is to revert one of the plants with STS and pollinate the other one to make high CBD seeds.

Then two questions came up:
I - Is this difference in phenotype common even in stabilized strains?
II- Does this cross between reverted X not reverted guarantee that I will have at least a similar cannabinoid profile?

I purchased the seeds at the "La Cucaracha" store in La Pedrera, Rocha, Uruguay.
I tried to contact Superstrains twice but got no answers.

Best regards,

gabobag

Stabilized strains do show different phenos. Two strains in particular near f10 I’ve worked with show two phenos. One strain sports a green and purple pheno, purple is purple stems almost blue and the leaves purple up, a bit skimpier then the green pheno. And the other strain durban poison is different mostly in bud structure and a bit spicier than the other. Although in veg they are typically quite similar in structure, and usually indistinguishable from one another. (Unless coloured stems in my case)

I feel you could bottle neck the DP down to my be pheno and still get both phenos.

However your photos show a stark difference at this stage but early to tell for sure. I suspect the strain isn’t overly stable. A 20:1 pheno found in a hunt that was selfed? I assume feminized seeds? Selfed hybrid strains with very little inbreeding show a lot of phenos typically.

if I was you and were planning to breed before test flowering each pheno I would try to pick the one that most looks like the breeders photo or others favourable reports. Unless something stands out that you favour more, I.E stem rub/vigor.

“Stabilized” might just mean for one trait, like CBD production. I’ve read that Cherry Bomb has been bred over 20 generations, and still has red and green phenotypes. So in that case it’s been stabilized for cherry and I assume good effect and good growth. I think you can inbreed forever and still have some variables. You might have to pick your favorite pheno and get it tested for CBD and then use clones if you want reliable CBD production. CBD and THC are related so you could accidentally make a plant that has a different ratio and might actually get you stoned. If that’s not what you want I think you should get your favorite plant tested and clone it.

Thanks for answering, browntrout and PolyChucker. It makes a lot of sense that there are many phenotypes whithin a strain. And “Stabilized” might just mean for one trait.
I am a biologist and I work with plant taxnomy. We have always learned that, from a morphological point of view, the vegetative part varies a lot even within a single species. I imagine it could also applies to the cannabis strains.

I'll keep clones going, select the strongest ones and then reversals with STS to produce seeds.
Unfortunately there are no labs that could test cannabinoid levels where I live . I'll run brain tests, tho. =)

Stabilized, marketing nonsense. There are ZERO Cannabis breeders. Just a bunch of lame egotistical phonies
