SSH SoG - Grow box design, strain, light questions and more!

Hey guys my first post here so please be gentle ;)

I’m planning on growing a SoG in my cabinet and it’s my first time so I’ve got a ton of questions,
despite reading hundreds upon hundreds of threads (as a lot of personal opinion rather than scientific facts).

I don’t smoke a lot, barely 5g (0,176 oz) a week, sometimes nothing. So my SoG will be very micro, and stealth.
Seeing as the outcome of the harvest yield depends on a lot of factors,
is there any way for me to count approximately how many plants I’ll need to yield an average of 5G (0,176 oz) per week?

The space I have available is (Depth x Width x Height) 54 x 64 x 70 cm (21,2 x 25,2 x 27,5 inches).
These are the measurements I’ll use for the grow box I want to build. The cabinet will have a few centimetres per side
to “breathe” and it will facilitate if I ever need to take it out.

Electricity is free, but I’m on a budget so I’m planning on doing this with fluorescent lightning,
either T5 or T8, as I won’t have to spend any extra money on cooling if I understood this part correctly?
I’m planning on using 2 2x18W armature/fittings per side (4 total), or 1 per side and 1 in the roof (3 total)
and cover the inside with mylar for the extra reflection. I’m planning on using these kinds of fixtures (attached file, the small one).

The next thing are fans. Is the easiest thing to get a computer fan and convert it so I can use it in a normal power outlet/socket?
If so, I’m planning on using a really simple carbon filter of some kind, as I can’t have it smelling up my apartment.
Any ideas or tips on how to construct this as cheap and efficient as possible? I don’t care much for the advanced solutions I’ve found online.
And I’d rather not have to swap active coal and such if possible.

So we’ve got lighting and the fans done. Depending on how many plants I’ll need, I’ll adjust the amount of fans inside as well,
to strengthen the stem of the plants (asking for advice?).

Since I want this to be an ongoing (perpetual) thing, what is the best (or good) setup for a SoG?
I’ve understood I’ll need a mother to take the clones from, and I also want to have a box or a “section”
inside my grow box to hang the produce when curing it.

From what I’ve understood a yield of 5g per week will not require too much energy (electricity wise)
or space and I just want a very Spartan and clean setup.

As for the medium, I’ll plant in old regular soil with a good pH.
I don’t care much to do my own solutions with extra ingredients and such, just water them and see them grow.

As for the strain I’ve selected, it’s a Super Silver Haze from Green House Seed (Europe), as it’s my absolute favorite smoke of all time.
I know it’s not ideal for a SoG from what I’ve read (because growing sideways alot, but main cola is still fat), but I’m doing it anyway.
How tall must they be before I put them in 12/12 light?
Preferably, I don’t want to have to bend them in order to maintain my SoG.

Speaking of the light, I’ve read so much about 24-0, 20-4, 18-6 and 12-12 (even 13-11!)
but I want to keep it simple and stick to 24-0 and 12-12 with a timer.
Any ideas on this? Will it work for SSH?
Also I’d like to know a good schedule for when to plant the clones, mother, how many I’ll need to keep on retainer etc.
I know this varies depending on when I harvest etc but from what I’ve understood
it’s approximately a 10 week process from start to end (putting clones/seeds in to harvest)?

I’m sorry if some parts don’t make sense, but English is not my
native tongue and all of this is very new to me as I’ve only smoked until now and never been interested in the growing. But that’s about to change!

Oh and I also forgot to ask! Since I'll be ordering feminized seeds, do I have to worry about males at all or the outcome of these seeds or will they be 100% female, and the clones take after the main plant, right? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Sincerely,
GE

That is kind of a small space. It's possible to fit mother, clones, veg, flower but it will be tough. Also you could look for ion generators but they have downsides of being a little more expensi be and can damage you and your plants if ventilation isnt right. Carbon filters are cheap (~35 USD) to make and unless you have a huge grow, really don't need to change the carbon too often. Look into CFL, that's just what I prefer. T5 or T8 will work fine. Most feminized seeds are 99.9 females and yes their clones will be female too. But it's not completely unheard of to get a male if very unlucky and plant is stressed

Not to be a Debbie downer but it will be quite a struggle to fit multiple plants in there. If you had one mother, a few clones, one veg, and one flower I think youd be hard pressed to fit much more than that that in what is basically 2x2x2. Maybe switch between 1 flower 2 veg - 2 veg 1 flower, which isn't all that efficient, but will work. If you keep your plants small and maybe do LST maybe... Maybe...

Hey guys and thanks for the replies!

I've decided to go with another route. At first I thought it would be more work but after reading your comments I realize it's not. I can knock out a shelf and get about 51 inches worth of height.

This way I could grow larger plays and scrap the sog idea, giving place for more. Seeing as I'm not a heavy smoker it shouldn't affect my yield so I notice it?

Width and depth would still be the same, how many plants do you reckon would fit in there then?

I can get CFL through a contact for production price basically, what would the "best" yet affordable solution be watt wise?

Thanks once again for your replies, I really appreciate it!

Sincerely,
GE

Sorry for double post and horrible spelling, a broken screen on your smartphone isn't really helping ;) got two questions! I can still get clones from the large plants right, but it will give me some downtime between harvesting and starting a new grow, or can u cut one off and overlap without stressing out the plant too much?

And is there a rep or thank system on these forums? Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,
GE
