I haven't seen any discussions about Panic on here yet, so I thought I'd start one.
I was first introduced to panic back in 96', when a friend took me to a concert in my town. I didn't know who they were at the time and still didn't for years afterwards. This concert was my first introduction to LSD, so I didn't remember much about the show. Fast forward about 4 years, and live recordings started getting passed around amongst friends and I was hooked, been listening to them ever since.
After Houser died, I thought the band was ruined and would never be the same. While they certainly will never be the same without Mikey, they certainly evolved into something I really like around the time they started playing with Jimmy Herring. At first I thought he overplayed the band too much, and he may have, but he is learning and I think he's fitting in very well.
About their new album, at first I was a bit turned off. Don't know if it was due to me not listening to them for a while, and knowing them "with Mikey" and not being able to quite adapt to the new sound. The more I listened to it though, the more it started to catch me, and now I think it is another great album.
The last time I saw them live was at Wakarusa last year. The show was great, I totally enjoyed it. What turned me off was the atmosphere. Wakarusa was a multi-day music festival, which means they played last, so the place was a wreck and everyone around looked like whooped out zombies. When I see them again, I think I'd prefer to go to a venue where they are the only ones playing.
So, if anyone wants to join in and discuss whatever you want about panic. Have at it.
For all the haters, hate your way on over to another thread.
