spots??

im just wondering if any one knows what the spots are from these are my mothers 5 weeks old and the spots are also on my flowering plants 1 week in. most of the spotting feels raised and krinkled. I have never had these before, i checked for bugs and havent seen any. THe Ph of moms are 6.5 and ladys are 5.8 -6 they are in soiless promix not fortified, i have been feeding every other watering my starting water is a t 180 last feed was at 950ppm teh one before at 850.possibly too high, maybe th e spots are nute burn?? I havent checked runoff yet will do on next water 2 days from now. I have had low ph run off in past due to salt build up, which in turn got me to check new soil. I took a beercup full of new promix or sunshine and ran ph 7 and the pH went to 5.6. does anyone know why that would happen on new unused soil?? there is lime added to soil.

I think the spots you are seeing are a nutrition problem like lack of zinc or another micronutrient.

Your ph for your mother plants at 6.5 is too high. Ph in soilless mix like promix is good at 5.6 to 6.2

Reason the new mix may not show a higher ph than 5 something initially is because the lime takes time to react. Weeks...even months.

Best suggestion for ph problems is to adjust your fertilizer plus water after mixing to ph 5.8 to 6 for soilless mixes. You might need to add an acid or base. Better to feed dilutely with every watering so the ph can be adjusted and the plants receive constant nutrition.

Be sure to read the how to test soil ph link in my signature to make sure your testing the ph correctly.

i have noticed some of the spots have eaten through the plant, and some spots have progressed into a very dry wrinkled leaf that feels like there is no moisture in leaf.

well hello all

my spots are getting worse on some plants, looks like they are drying the leaves out some how. I checked the soil run off and on my moms i ran 6.3 and came out as 5.1 on 1 and4.7 on another. My ladys i ran 6 and it came out as 5.6 - 5.4. I dont know if this could cause something but im using new ferts "okanagen blend" when its a fert water i have to add two to three times the acid just to get the ph down,as opposed to staight water, possibly the ferts are well buffered.... as i said in original when i ran 7.7 ph threw brand new unused soiless soil in dropped to 5.5.... flushing mothers i could do but having to flush all the ladys would be a lot of ph down and many many hours. Is thereanother way to raise ph of soil effectively without causing ph fluctuation, can i not add higher ph water to compensate like 7 or something,,, maybe skip a feeding
also i checked tds of run off on the moms one read 3000ppm and the ladys were 1600 and another was 2000.. well hope someone has the wisdom ... thanks everyone

What solution do you calibrate w/? 3000PPM is high i do believe....but it all depends on what your meter is calibrated at.

I run my PH on my buckets at 5 to 6.

If you look at the sick plant guides.....

He says...

Seedlings should be around 50-150 PPM
Unrooted clones to be around 100-350 PPM
small plants to be around 400-800 PPM
large plants to be around 900-1800 PPM
Last week of flowering use plain water.

I calibrated with a 900U solution and i run around 800ish.

This is exactly the problem that I'm having with my girls. The same look with the bumpy lines/holes, then moves on to the lower level leaves turning brown/black and getting crispy. I added a little water to my reservoir after mixing nutes at regular strength to dilute it some, hopefully that will help. I'm just starting week 2 of flowering, so I'm trying to ensure that this problem won't stop my plants from thriving!

You really need to be using distilled water to check the ph. This is most accurate. Read the directions carefully for testing ph in my signature. Your method is not accurate. There is really no telling what your ph really is.

If the ph comes out too low, you should be adjusting your fertilizer water after mixing to a higher ph. Ph in soilless mixes like promix should be 5.6 to 6.2. So, adjust your fert. water to ph 6.2. Eventually the media would rise in ph towards this.

Electrical conductivity (ec) can give you an idea of the salts in the media. Too high or low. To test, take 1 part soil (1/4cup or 60ml)) and mix with 2 parts distilled water. Mix well. Allow to sit 15 to 30 minutes. Filter the mixture to get the liquid using a coffee filter. Ec is measured in mmhos/cm or ds/m. They are equal. For established plants it should be .8 to 1.2 and for seedlings .5 to .9 The pour through method of adding a slight amount distilled water to your pots already wet media and catching the runoff can also be used but is less accurate. The only value I have is by grower observation for established plants being 3 to 5. To convert the mmhos/cm or ds/m numbers to total ppm , multiply by 700. This may be not accurate by 10-20% so take it as an approximation. For example, 3 mmhos/cm would be 2100 ppm. So, your runoff salts would be in the right range for the "moms" and low for the "ladys" but your not using distilled water so you should test again.

Fertilizer burn usually shows up as brown edges along the leaves (margins) rather than spots scattered throughout the leaf that aren't really brown.

I think personally that this is a pest i have seen it on some trees and remember a biology lesson on it! although thats about it im afraid i cant name it i would put my money on it being a pest rather than nute problems are the spots raised up and bumpy? they look it

yeah spots are raised and bumpy but ive checked for pests and have yet to find any ill check harder. Also i will take a new test of ph runoff with distilled water and see what i get. Thanks every one. Hey stealth let me know how you do if the bumpy spots go away. By the way the plants are growing well and flowers are showing quite well for ten days into flower. later
