Spots on leaves and lower ones dying

Here's some crappy pics taken with my cell phone. I'm growing "el nino" under a 400 w hps. Grown straight from 12/12. I Think its been going 2-3 weeks now. Soil: Miracle grow potting soil + perlite. Minimal nutrient supplement of 10-15-10.. Heres the pics:

I was gonna FIM both of them right now even though one of em has started to show sex (female). Is it too late to top them???? Please let me know asap!

What do I have to do to get my plants lookin healthy again???

I have one in a 1 gal and the other in a half gal container, but I ran out of soil to fill both to the top, they're both actually about half full of soil

I just gave a feeding to both plants of Schultz 10-15-10........ 12 drops in a 1.75 L container split between both plants..... and I topped the smaller of the two which hasn't shown sex yet....... any suggestions????

Hi captn!

Man - take a deep breath and slow down a bit!!! You need to give your plants a little room and time.

Could be wrong, but to me they look a bit wet and overnuted.

They are in large size containers for the size of their root system, you definitely don't want to water them too often or the roots might rot. I'd wait until they feel pretty light in the pot before I'd water again.

I'd also hold off on the feedings until they ask for them. At this point they have little leaf mass and so little nute requirement, most of what you give them now will hang out in the soil, unused, accumulating.

Like I said, JMO, but I'd give them a bit of space and let them be for a while. If they continue to show more leaf tip burn you might want to consider a mini flush with pH neutral water and then let them sit under the lights until they dry out.

If moisture and wet roots is a problem, you can try getting some Hygrozyme or Cannazyme - very good for breaking down dead root matter in the soil.

Good luck, I'm sure they'll straighten up and fly right!

Actually this is the first feeding in 2 weeks and the first was because I had never fed before and the plants had withering lower leaves and spots and light green color.... I had left the plants for 4 days unatennded and they looked worse when i came back and hadn't given them water for 4 days... I guess now I've probably over watered and given too much more nutrient surplus... hopefully tomorrow they look better. If not I guess I'll just have to have them dry out.. :(

That MG potting soil is probably a bit "hot" to begin with...hence the leaf burn when you ferted. The bad spots are there permanently so don't look for them to recover. You just need to prevent more damage by not ferting for (I'd say) several weeks. If more browning occurs then you'll probably need to flush like Mr GJ said......he had some good advice.

Good point, I hadn't considered that the MG had nutrients already. The plants dont look much better today, unfortunately. The lower part of both plants look pretty brown shriveled and sickly, while the upper half looks good. I guess I'll have to wait a few days then flush because the soil is still pretty wet.....

Will my yield be affected because the lower part of the plant is relatively dead?
SHould I cut off the bad leaves or leave them?

Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it!

Hi captainfrag
Do you have a TDS pen or meter? You can pour through a gal of pH'ed water, and then check the runoff. If it's super high, then flush another few gals, and then check the last bit of runoff again - continue until you are in a good range ( when this happens to me, my PPMs are higher than the meter can read ).

Also it may take a few days to a week to see a difference, depending on how stressed the plants got.

Good luck!

All of you are right

All of you are right

All good avice Captin.
I bet the MG Soil is Hot and Burned the Youngins.... Though Honest I have seen worse.. these arn't that bad.
They looked over watered.
A Flush will add more water but you need to get the HOT Nutes out of there.
Adding more Nutes Won't help!

Of course if you just let it alone I bet they will grow into the MG Soil ok with out a lot of fuss. A little burn here and there, but they would recover fine once they are bigger.

update: the bottom leaves look pretty sickly while the top ones look strong and healthy.. hopefully there's a fully recovery by next week.... I'm under time constraints to harvest

Looks like salt damage. I would not use miracle grow potting soil especially inside. About all you can do is use straight water and flush the soil well. I have noticed some of these soils have encapsulated fertilizer/slow release added so leaching the soil would really be futile as more nutrients would be released. Next time find a soil with no additives other than maybe dolomite lime or gypsum so you can control what is added and not have to guess at what is being released or is present.

Well its been a month and this girl has been flowering around 40 days. The strain is el nino and has indoor maturation listed at 60 to 65 days, but the fan leaves are yellowing, brown at the tips, and basically falling off on their own or snap off if I touch them. I've been flushing with a bunch of water, because it looks like the pH is too low.
I have no pH testing kit, and realize that late in flowering this happens. My question is this:

Should I keep giving her lots of water to try to fix the pH? I have a feeling that eventually all of the fan leaves will fall off and eventually the leaves around the buds will then start to turn yellow and I'll be forced to harvest.

This plant looks like its going to be awesome somke as even the fan leaves that are falling off have visible trichromes on the leaves and stalks and smells delicious! I really want to maximize its yield as I know I will be harvesting relatively soon.

I think I'm going to add a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to 1 L of tap water to raise the pH slightly. What do you guys think?

Got any pics of them in the current state? I would avoid the baking soda personally...it'll build up in the soil and can cause more long term problems.

You need to at least get some ph test strips from the pet store in the aquarium section to get an idea of ph for future grows.
