If you know what your doing(have done something similar before), then it's not that hard at all. There are specific items you need that can't be avoided. If you don't know what I mean already, then you better hire somebody. That's if your legal.
If your in the land of prohibition still, your next best bet is to find someone that knows how to do it that is cool, and can keep their mouth shut. Lastly if none of the above work for you. Research, research, research, before you attempt anything. And always make sure the supply is shut off at the source before you do any work on it.
I'm a DIY'er , and have done what you want. Although I was taught how to work with gas lines when I was in my teens. Natural Gas ain't no shit to play with. Few years back a home in a nearby town was blasted up 2-3 ft. off it's foundation from a gas leak that found a spark.
