Spider mites vs. NoPestStrip, neem, and maybe the NUKE

I'm on day 4 since I found the little yellow spots on my leaves and realized I had spider mites. My plants have been in 12/12 for 35 days now. The light are going on in 20 minutes which will complete the 3rd night of sealed room (5x8x8) with 4 NoPestStrips inside. I also sprayed twice with neem oil on the undersides of the leaves that i could get to (some of my plants are in the back corner and hard to reach).

Yesterday when I looked there were a lot of dead mites (they had turned from clear to brown on the back and weren't moving). There were also some smaller clear ones that looked fine and were hacking away at my leaves. So.... when the light go in a few minutes I'm going to check if they are dead or still moving. Luckily they have not started to spin their big webs yet, I hope I've caught them in time.

I bought a small container of Floramite, but I'm hesitant to bring out the NUKE just yet. I'm wondering if there is any benefit from spraying this stuff everywhere except the plants? Is that a total waste? I'm just trying to hold off using this unless absolutely necessary as I don't want to get it on the buds.

High iLL! The neem wont kill them, only prevent them from reprpducing. I would coat one more time as new growth emerges, as they have to eat it to be effectine. Ive never used "no pest strips" so I can not comment on them. But the "hot shot" hangin thingys really do the trick. I think they made by raid but not certain. I would not fog or spray much more than nee, this far into flower as you will prolly end up smoking whatever you use.
Peace and hope that helps, bugout

Hey TBug, thanks for the info! the Hot shot hanging things are the same thing, NoPestStrips is the product name i believe. And I just checked and about 95% of those bastards are dead, with only very few here and there that are moving. And those ones look half dead too! So it looks like I will not have to use the floramite after all. I'll follow up with another neem spraying in a few days, and keep putting the nopest strips in the room at night until they are all gone.

I'm still wondering if the floramite is only good with direct contact, or if spraying around the room will be of any benefit.

Floramite has a 21 day residual factor. And it will need to be applied to the plants. I'd use the neem and no pest strips,(they never worked for me) on your flowering plants. But certainly use the Floramite on your vegin plants. And do a good cleanup.

Funny how some treatments work for some people and not others. I found the strips to be highly effective against mites. One thing I think people don't do, not saying that about you Smokey, is turn off the ventilation lights off so the gas builds in the room. I had a large room once and no way I could have sprayed anything cause it was all tied up in trellis netting. It was also a little late in flower when the infestation actually started. Luckily I caught it at the start. I used bombs once and vowed never again. The mites came right back anyway as the bombs did not kill all the mites.

Yeah...neem just prevents the little buggers from reproducing and Floramite kills by contact.

No pest strips took care of my mites but I went a little overboard, using 4 strips in a tiny closet with filter off for a week did the job. I'm still going to spray down with avid to make sure.

Well so far the strips and the neem seem to be working. I have 4 new strips in the sealed room and over 95% of the mites are dead now. I will be continuing the strips for another week or so to be safe, followed with another spray of neem. I already did a full cleanup of the growroom and surrounding area so I think I will beat these little pests!

Thanks everyone for the input!

I had super strong mites, They wiped out my garden. Nothing worked until the floramite, Nothing. I was even blacklisted from the local growers union. Now I'm a member in good standing. Super Mite is dead.

iLLperception, I hope that the neem and no pest strips work for you until the end of harvest. But I would forsure hit the vegin plants with the Floramite.

The hanging "No Pest Strips" are made by Spectra...I use them until the last 3 weeks before harvest and they work great...It basically kills anything that moves.

neem is more of a preventative measure. I spray neem every 7 days in veg and 2 weeks into flower. You have to be vigilante when you use preventetaive measures. If its too late and you have them neem isnt going to work. you could vacuume up some with a shop vac. also spray floramite on 2 small spoonges and wipe the big leaves down on heavily infested areas. You could also use a sulpher burner which will help keep mite numbers down and help with powdery mildew.

Super Mite is dead.
...and there was much rejoicing. I've heard some deal with super mites resistant to stuff like Avid and the strips. Floramite is a good one. Something else I've run across which could probably be used in case of extreme resistance is Oberon but it's pretty heavy duty and no way I'd use it in flower. It's more like a nuclear device to be used in case of extreme emergency. I think you can only get Oberon if you're in the agriculture business.
