spider mites taking over...

Hi guys,
its my first experience with spyder mites and now I know why they are the worst bastards to have your garden infested with. I have tried getting rid of them with safer's end all yesterday and after 6 hours I was still able to see them walking around though I have to admit they were pretty damn slow. I had a couple that wilt and eventually died so I thought the pesticide would take care of my problem but I guess not. This morning when I woke up I found another 2 plants starting to wilt. Man if it continues at this rate my babies will get wiped out by the end of this week . I dont understand how the spider mites can still be that active after doing the first treatement. I have a feeling my plants will eventually all start to wilt like the others and die. Has anyoine ever experienced the wilting problem I am getting?
BTW the wilting is not from overwatering/underwatering as I have tested a few so its definatly the damn mites that are torturing them all.
Im thinking of ditching them unless someone can find a solution fast. Remember, the plants destiny are now in YOUR hands people

I had good luck with "Garden Safe" brand Fruit and Vegetable Insect Spray. I soaked the plants and the soil too, every 3-4 days. Plants (seedlings) got through it fine with no visible damage from the spray. I'm now a few weeks into flowering and no sign of the "Borg". Last grow was a disaster! Hardly got any bud, so spray your babies down!-Granny

why is it that my plants are dying so fast, I mean its only been 17.5 hours I sprayed them and I got about 20 % that got worst sinced I rinced them 12.5 hours ago.
they say I have to wait another week before I can do a second application of safer's crap but by then I will lucky if one survives. Im about to trash these bitches cause at this point it ain't even worth putting outside or maybe have fun torching them up in smoke n ashes

Start from seed at another location, then when your finished your current crop cut everything down. Dont leave any plant matter in the house. Spray what ever you can get your hands on in the room. Leave it the room empty for a week or so, dont let them little bastards have anything to chew on. Maybe try to get your room as cold as it can get as well. Replant and carry on.

Peace

I would love to recommend a spray but the stuff that reallly works is so toxic. Hows the floramite?

Floramite or Avid are the only way to go if you want to make sure they're gone. A single thorough spraying (making sure to get the undersides of ALL leaves) with either of those WILL kill the mites - usually in a single spraying.

if you can't afford floramite go with neem and predator mites....spray with neem....rinse....let the predator mites go....they will eat any remaining mites not dead and all the eggs...when there is no more mites or eggs the predators die from lack of food....so obviously all mites and eggs are gone.

one thing people don't understand is alot of these sprays don't kill the eggs....so you spray and think they are gone for awhile then two weeks later u have a whole new borg...by time u notice them again they already laid more eggs so you spray them and don't see any mites but they already laid more eggs. u need stuff that fries the eggs or something that eats them.

I know Avid isn't sold as an ovicide, but the eggs never hatch after getting sprayed. I believe Floramite is marketed as a combo miticide/ovicide tho...

IME the main reason mites survive a spraying with a true miticide is from user error where a complete spraying of all plant material was not accomplished or they are allowed to survive in an adjacent area and reinfect the grow area.

How old are the plants? If you mist them lightly you will be able to see where the largest infestations are and you can remove a lot by hand. You can use the above suggestions or you could also use neem oil. Regardless of what you do remove as many as you can....

Ya the floramite is a one time spray. I fought mite for year. Tried everything over the years. I sprayed everything one and haven't done anything since. It is truely the final solution. I threw my Avid out its was just way to toxic and you have to continually spray it. Were the avid stays active for like 21 days.Make sure to spend the extra money and buy sturrp-m the mite phermones. It draws the little guys to there death.

Mr. Nevermind

I have saved 7 peoples gardens to date out in Oregon due to my advice on no pest strips. Seems most of my friends out there have been fighting mites for months with no success. The dude at their hydro store said NPS suck and not to use them so they didnt. Then i talked to one of em and he tried them and 2 days later he was mite free. then all the friends got told and the same thing happened, they are all mite free.

People get all freaked out saying NPS may be toxic. Well one way to beat that. only use NPS at night when the lights are out. With no lights on , there is no photosynthesis taking place, therefore no exchange of air. So the plants arent breathing in anything. Then when the lights come on, take em out.

There is also a spray called " Mite- X" that is a natural spray. its comprised of garlic and clove oil and when you spray it you smell garlic. If the stuff touches a mite they are dead, period. and since its just garlic and clove you want rinse your plants off after spray and not be worried about pesticides still on your buds.

Hope that helps

Spider mite development differs somewhat between species but a typical life cycle is as follows.
The eggs are attached to fine silk webbing and hatch in approximately three days.
The life cycle is composed of the egg, the larva, two nymphal stages (protonymph and deutonymph) and the adult.
The length of time from egg to adult varies greatly depending on temperature.
Under optimum conditions (approximately 80 degrees F), spider mites complete their development in five to twenty days.
There are many over-lapping generations per year.
The adult female is capable of laying several hundred eggs during her life.

Do you guys put the no pest thingies above or in the plants. I tried one on an area and the mites weren't even affected.
