Spider Mite Prevention?

I've been looking all over the place and have found plenty of help for the battle against spider mites and many other pests. But what i'm really looking for is how to prevent these pests and specifically spider mites.

This is the first year my grow is really getting off the ground and it will hopefully be my first of many successful Outdoor grows. Now what i'm wondering is what will help prevent these nasty buggers. Does location make a difference? Any kind of safe concoctions that might help? Or is there really nothing you can do except leave it up to the cannabis gods.

Obviously im very paranoid about bugs since ive finally got some gud plants and hope to have my first harvest.

Any IDEAS?...

If ya can seal the room COMPLETELY and treat it BEFORE usage. If you do any kind of yard work or play outside, shower before entry to the garden. The little boogers like your shoes as well so if ya can set aside a pair for you garden only. This might sound silly but get your first infestation and you will see these guys DON'T play well with are weeds.

^^He's doing an outdoor grow

Outdoors, about all you can do is spray them with a miticide every month. Most of the miticides will stay on the plant for around 28 days, so it should be adequate to keep them from getting started on your plants. Most of them shouldn't be used during flowering though since you don't want to be smoking that stuff.

thanks sandman. at this point i dont think im going to use any kind of pesticides i guess ill just ride it out and see...but i haven't put them in their permanent location yet, Are certain areas more prone to mites? (eg. swamp, corn field, long grass, near water, dry plain, etc.)

Sunny areas speed up mite reproduction but that is best for plant growth. As a preventative, use horticultural oil sprayed especially under the leaves. This is basically non toxic to humans. Use less than the label says in hot weather to prevent burning. Safer soap also would work. Outdoors mites are less of a problem because of rain washing them away unlike indoors where no rain would occur.

i went back to check wut ppl recommended in this thread and have a question. if there isn't really anything different to add then just ignore it. anyhow a couple of my plants have found their permanent home in a corn field. How good a location do you think this is regarding pests and moulds?
